When we heard this:
“It’s not how you feel about the design, its how the design
makes you feel about yourself.” - Ravi Sawhney

We couldn’t help but remember this:
“You'll know when you find the right person, It's not how
you feel about them, it's how they make you feel about
yourself” - The Wedding Singer

           • The difference between a product you love and a
LOVE FOR     product you tolerate are the microinteractions.

           • Login, save as and silencing your phone are all
MICRO-       examples of microinteractions.


INTER-     • Little things make a big difference. Bad
             microinteractions are like a pebble in your shoe.

ACTIONS    • Even if your big idea is good, your product won’t be if
             its surrounded by pain and frustration.

LOVE FOR IMPACT
Both Gretchen Anderson (Driving Impact not Serving
Shareholders) and Franco Papeschi (Innovation,
Investment, Influence and Impact) talked about how
non-profits/NGOs measure success through impact
instead of experience.

Imagine that all design started this way. Determine the
change you want to make in the world/your industry/a
person’s life and work backwards from there.

Focus on the minimum viable intervention to have an
impact. It can save time and money.

LOVE FOR GAMES
BUT NOT BADGES

Elements of games like tutorials and rewards can be
powerful tools when presented in a context that is
meaningful for the user and smartly executed. However,
placing badges or other game elements into a product
without relevant context insults the user, the product and
gamification.

LOVE FOR
GLACIERS

Experience design goes way beyond digital interfaces. A
great reminder of that was keynote speaker, Kate
Hartman’s “Glacier Embracing Suit”, which allows people
to lie on a glacier and give it a hug.

All rights reserved. • The difference between a product you love and a LOVE FOR product you tolerate are the microinteractions. • Login, save as and silencing your phone are all MICRO- examples of microinteractions. INTER- • Little things make a big difference. Bad microinteractions are like a pebble in your shoe. ACTIONS • Even if your big idea is good, your product won’t be if its surrounded by pain and frustration. IxD13 DAILY RECAP

LOVE FOR IMPACT Both Gretchen Anderson (Driving Impact not Serving Shareholders) and Franco Papeschi (Innovation, Investment, Influence and Impact) talked about how non-profits/NGOs measure success through impact instead of experience. Imagine that all design started this way. Determine the change you want to make in the world/your industry/a person’s life and work backwards from there. Focus on the minimum viable intervention to have an impact. It can save time and money. IxD13 DAILY RECAP

LOVE FOR • Government regulations/privacy laws, communication challenges between patients and caregivers and PATIENTS... diversity of types of information make it a tough problem to solve. AND THEIR • “Most people know more about their car’s health than they do their own” - Juhan Sonin (Hacking PROVIDERS Health: Designing for and Understanding My Health) • Pictures instead of text-based care instructions can be easier for patients to understand and quicker for providers to draft. - Audrey Richard Laurent (Compliance: design to facilitate a healthcare service) IxD13 DAILY RECAP

LOVE FOR GAMES BUT NOT BADGES Elements of games like tutorials and rewards can be powerful tools when presented in a context that is meaningful for the user and smartly executed. However, placing badges or other game elements into a product without relevant context insults the user, the product and gamification. IxD13 DAILY RECAP
