Welcome! I’d like to talk today about THErecent history of MySQL
Let me now talk about this conference and its place in MySQL ecosystem.I’ve been speaking at this conference since first event in 2003 and I’ve seen how this conference helped MySQL growthA lot of critical relationships have been forged here a lot of business deals made and a lot of ideas sparkedThis conference was important for success of Percona and many other companies. This conference was always unique for 2 reasons. First it was MySQL conference, not Open Source conference,Or conference focused on all technologies large company offers. This means every single person here cares aboutMySQL which creates completely different dynamics. Second this is both Technology and Business event. People come here to do business not just speak about merits of Open Source Software and this is important as all technology needs a business component to succeed.Oreilly was a great steward for this event and we would prefer to see It continuing as Oreilly conference, howeveras Oracle has decided not to support this conference and Oreilly decided not to run it this year we knew we could not let it Die. Organizing such conference is a huge financial commitment and great strain on management resources for small company as ours,Normally conferences of this scale are planned more than a year in advance and we had to pull it off in 6 months. This could Not happen without your support, we could not make it without your support as speaker selection committe, speakers, sponsorsAnd attendees. Thank you for making this conference success. On this note let me introduce the brilliant developer, blogger, speaker, lead author of High Performance MySQL 3rd Edition - Baron Schwartz will share the his personal story and how it relates to the conference. This conference is very important for MySQL EcosystemThere is no alternative event which would be MySQL Business focused When we knew this conference would not happen we had to step in, even though we did not want it the harm for all of us would be too great if we would not make it continue. We’re greting great support from Speaker Sponsors, Attendees who understand importance of this event. Thank you all.Introduce super rock star Baron.

We wondered is this the end ? Will Oracle kill MySQL as an annoying competitor or will it continue development as a proprietary product ?
Oracle has proved to be a reliable partner in THE MySQL Ecosystem.MySQL releases under Oracle have been more stable and Predictable with a lot of annoying bugs fixed -Also a lot of features needed by traditional MySQL users have been added.
All of them are backed up by solid development teams, have been in development for years and they are here to stay.
Oracle’s introduction of proprietary features actually gave endorsement to other proprietary business models in THE MySQL Ecosystem. As a result many companies not only survived but flourished and more innovation is happening than ever before
