2. Interview Process
I only interviewed him once because of his
busy schedule
We are good friends, so the interview process
was smooth and was never awkward
We are closer because of this assignment
because I know more than most people know
about him
3. Why I chose Trevor
This is a picture of
Trevor and my Mimi at
my wedding. As you can
see, Trevor is a close
friend of me and my
husband.
Trevor is a good friend
and was someone I
knew who would gladly
agree to be interviewed.
4. Trevor and His Sister
This is Trevor and his
sister. They were
close growing up.
They didn’t have
extracurricular
activities as children
so all they had was
each other to play
with and lean on.
5. Trevor and His Music
Trevor plays the
trombone with the
Parris Island Marine
Band. He had a love
for music and
needed money for
college, so he joined
the military.
6. Trevor’s Life
Trevor has a matrilineal lineage. He
never knew his biological father, so he
grew up being close to his mother’s side
of his family and relating to them. His
mother did remarry, and he was adopted
by his step-father, but Trevor was not
ever very close to him.
7. Independent
“My mom and my legal father fought a lot
and they never officially got a divorce,
but there were many times where we
would pack up our things and stay at my
Mom’s friend’s house. Or dad would go
off for like a week. It was an on/off
relationship for the remainder of my
grade school years. I never had a good
relationship with my dad. I was
independent.”
8. Independent Continued
Trevor has been working since 16 years. He
worked as a life guard for 3 summers, and as a
cashier at a grocery store while school was in
session.
At 18, Trevor planned to go to college, but his
parents told him they didn’t have the money for
both of their children to go to school. That is
when Trevor decided he would join the military
and let his sister go to college.
9. Air Force or Marines??
He was all signed up to join the Air
Force, but at the last minute, he had a
change of heart. He wanted to pursue
music and the Air Force “laughed” at him.
The Marine Corps took him in and let him
do what he wanted. So, they locked him
in a contract for 4 years.
10. Traveling
Trevor has lived in California, Virginia, and
South Carolina since he has joined the Marine
Corps in 2010.
“I do like moving around, I love interacting with
new people. You can learn a lot from each
person, from their walks of life. They each think
differently, act differently, and it’s cool to see
those differences. I’ve also learned to adapt
and be more open minded to different types of
people.”
11. Trevor in the Future
Trevor plans to get out of the Marine Corps
after his enlistment. The Marine Corps has a
Post 9/11 GI Bill that will pay for his college.
He wants to go to either the University of North
Texas or the University of Texas- Austin. He
doesn’t know what he wants to major in, but he
knows he wants to use the free money to go to
school and not waste it.
12. Best Friends
This is a picture of me and my husbands friends and us. We are all
from the same area in Texas, and we all somehow ended up in
the same place at the same time at the other end of the country.
We are so thankful for God bringing us together and will remain
life long friends. Colin, Trevor, Me (Erika), and my husband
(Jonathan).
