4. ABSTRACT
Imprinted media is one of the oldest types of advertising. As time passes, this particular type
evolves due to constant developments in techniques and technologies which are available
today. Updated software and printing methods availed a continuous development of printed
media. The last few years there is a tendency towards this development to become rapid due
to new many different technologies. These include video advertisements in print magazines
with small thin screens (video-in-print), e-book readers, e-inks as well as digital editions of
print editions that are launched simultaneously.
This dissertation will begin by introducing a historic list of methods which are used in print
advertising the last few years. A short narrative of print techniques will be given, starting
from print painting to nowadays printing methods. The usage of modern methods for printing
by large corporations will be also analyzed.
Furthermore, a study will be carried out that involves printing context and brochure design of
various educational institutes abroad and in Greece for the purpose of describing and
analyzing their characteristics and techniques that are being used on a moodboard.
Based on this moodboard a brand new promotional brochure of the department of Commerce
and Marketing of TEI Crete will be designed using the most up to date techniques that will
make it available for multichannel publishing, both print and on-line.
