This document provides information on institutional biomedical repositories in Europe. It includes a map showing the distribution of repositories by country, with the United Kingdom having the most at 87. The majority (78%) of repositories are hosted by universities, while only 4% are in hospitals. The objectives are to provide information on repositories, report on open access in European countries, and encourage institutions to develop repositories to promote open access to publicly funded research.

CONCLUSIONS
• Institutional Biomedical Repositories must turn into digital archives for storing scientific production financed by public funds.
• Public entities must promote the development of Institutional Biomedical Repositories as a way to spread open access.
• There are very few Institutional Biomedical Repositories in Europe.
• The 78 % of Institutional Biomedical Repositories in Europe are in the Universities while only the 4 % are in Hospital.
