Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Being most productive in the time you have
1. BEING MOST PRODUCTIVE IN THE
TIME YOU HAVE
Everyone has their moments of difficulty when it comes to
time management. You can’t stop time, and sometimes it
feels as if there is just not enough time in a day to get
everything done that you need to.
Technically, you cannot manage time, time is time and
you cannot change it. However, you can manage how
you use your time so that it will work to your advantage
instead of the other way around.
Managing time is actually managing what we do, during that time. It is pretty easy for a big
company executive to say that time needs to be managed, rather than being managed
themselves.
It is easier to use time as an excuse and say, “I just don’t have the time,” or “there is no way I can
finish this in that amount of time.”
Time management is just be the most productive in the time you have and doing what you
need to do. Accomplishing what you set out to do is good time management. If you need it,
even sleeping is not a waste of time.
Wasting time is only relative when you should have been doing something other than what you
were doing. As long as you believe that what you are doing at the time is important, then it is not
a waste of time.
But the real victim of commitments unfulfilled is you. Nothing takes gasoline out of your engines
than not keeping your schedule with yourself.
As long as you are doing what is important to you and what you believe should be done at any
given moment, then it is not wasting time, even if there are also other things that you need to
do.
This is relative in both your work life and during your free time. Doing projects at work or at home,
managing the time it takes to do them is important, but only you can decide which projects
have authority over others. Sometimes, in order to get things done, you have to put less
important things to the side for a later time. And you need to decide which projects to put to the
side and which ones to do right now.
You must remember to give yourself some appropriate boundaries and have a sustainable
balance between your life and your work. Feeling good about what you are doing is equal in
feeling good about what you are not doing.
