Social learning and social networking – new teachnologies Dr. Derek W. Nicoll
http://businessglobalisation.wordpress.com/
What technologies do we currently use? What benefits derive from them? How could these benefits be extended or amplified to assist learning?
When the word “social” is applied to learning it means: learning which is: Collaborative Immediate Relevant Presented in the context of a students chosen unique work environment.
What kinds of social interactions happen at work to assist learning? What kinds of interactions can we have with the outside world – the world beyond the classroom?
Participation and Collaboration ,[object Object]
They mandated that 50 percent of product innovation come from collaborating with partners and customers.
While collaboration has been traditionally thought of as employees collaborate internally, the workplace of the future will strive for much more external collaboration and will provide employees with access to external networks to make this collaboration possible.,[object Object]
New technologies present new ways of interacting or facilitating learning They make us – as lecturers – re-think the nature of content By using them you do your own research of the subject Once you locate material it has a long shelf-life – i.e. You can re-use it again and again
Participation – Students in learning Collaboration – Students with industry etc. New combinations – innovations Education into everyday life, everyday life into education
Mobile: The same-time, same-place model of learning will slowly disappear, as learners look to mobile devices for their learning. In a number of countries, there are now more mobiles than people. Education services are also available on the Nokia Life Tools service. The Education services include Exam tips, Learn English, General Knowledge, and Exam Results.
