The Divine power, made known in and through our
Lord Jesus Christ, forms a strong tower for the
believer, who relies on the Lord.
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.
Proverbs 18:10
4. 4
Psalm 91 1 He that dwelleth in the
secret place of the most High shall
abide under the shadow of the
Almighty. 2 I will say of the
LORD, He is my refuge and my
fortress: my God; in Him will I
trust.
When we dwell under God’s protective hand,
we are safe from the ravages of sin and from hell.
We let go of our own lusts and our own ways
and live life God’s Way; that protects us.
5. 5
Psalm 91:3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare
of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under
His wings shalt thou trust: His Truth shall be thy
shield and buckler.
God’s Word is Truth.
As we live according to the
Bible, we are protected.
Furthermore, God takes away our
fears when we live life His Way.
6. 6
Psalm 20 7 Some trust in
chariots, and some in horses:
but we will remember the
Name of the LORD our God.
7. 7
Psalm 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by
night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for
the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the
destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand
shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right
hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with
thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of
the wicked.
On the other hand:
8. 8
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an
high wall in his own conceit.
(NIV) 11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified
city; they imagine it an unscalable wall.
How deceitful the defense of the rich man, who has
his portion and treasure in this world! It is a strong
city and a high wall only in his own conceit; for it
will fail when most in need. They will be exposed
to the just wrath of that Judge whom they despised
as a Savior.
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.
9. 9
The people of this world depend on the things of
this world for their safety and well-being.
We put our trust in the Living God.
Philippians 4 19 But my God shall supply all your
need according to His riches in glory by Christ
Jesus.
10. 10
18a Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,
A person who feels
superior to others is
headed for a downfall.
Proverbs 6 16 These six things doth the LORD
hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: 17 A
proud look, …
11. 11
18:12 and before honor is humility.
Proverbs 13:10 (TLB) Pride leads to arguments; be
humble, take advice, and become wise.
James 4 6 But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He
saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace
unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to
God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
God honors humility.
12. 12
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it
is folly and shame unto him.
Pride causes us to butt in with an answer
before we even know the whole problem.
We need to hear both sides of a conflict.
We need to practice the art of listening.
13. 13
James 1 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let
every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to
wrath:
Luke 9 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud,
saying, This is My Beloved Son: hear Him.
In order to learn, we must
learn to listen.
