Joab killed him.
Joab killed him.
The revolution
is over.
Absalom
David
3
16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people
returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held
back the people. 17 And they took Absalom, and
cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a
very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel
fled every one to his tent.
With Absalom dead and
buried, the war was over.
All his people ran home with
their tails between their legs.
Submission
4
18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and
reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own
name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's
place.
His sons died very young, but he was determined
that his name be remembered.
Pride

He prepared his own memorial.

The fall
6
19 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me
now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the
LORD hath avenged him of his enemies. 20 And
Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this
day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but
this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the
king's son is dead.
Perhaps Joab feared that David would kill the
messenger who told him Absalom was dead.
7
21 Then said Joab to Cushi (an Ethiopian), Go tell
the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed
himself unto Joab, and ran. 22 Then said Ahimaaz
the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever,
let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab
said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that
thou hast no tidings ready?
Ahimaaz thought he would be bringing good news
to the king -- the revolt was over.
They had won.
8
23 But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said
unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of
the plain, and overran Cushi. 24 And David sat
between the two gates: and the watchman went up
to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up
his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running
alone.Him took a shortcut and got ahead.
He really wanted to tell King David the good news.
We should have just as great a desire to tell the
Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
9
25 And the watchman cried, and told the king. And
the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his
mouth. And he came apace, and drew near. 26 And
the watchman saw another man running: and the
watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold
another man running alone. And the king said, He
also bringeth tidings.
10
27 And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running
of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the
son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man,
and cometh with good tidings. 28 And Ahimaaz
called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he
fell down to the earth upon his face before the king,
and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which
hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand
against my lord the king.
This was good news!
11
29 And the king said, Is the young man Absalom
safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the
king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great
tumult, but I knew not what it was. 30 And the king
said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he
turned aside, and stood still.
In verse 20 Joab told him that Absalom was dead.
He just didn’t want to say so.
David’s concern was for the wrong one.
He should have been more concerned about his
own men who had fought for him.
12
31 And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tid-
ings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged
thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
32 And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man
Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies
of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to
do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
Cushi didn’t hold back; Absalom was dead, he
was glad of it, and wished all who rose against
King David the very same thing.
13
33 And the king was much moved, and went up to
the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he
went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my
son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O
Absalom, my son, my son!
Absalom had rebelled, not only against David,
But also against the Will of the Lord God.
God’s Will was accomplished
in his death.
14
David’s overwhelming grief was opposing
the Divine Will and Purpose of God.
He should have given God thanks, as Ahimaaz did,
and as the Cushite messenger did.
God had saved the kingdom for David,
His chosen king.
15
Romans 12 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which
is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed
to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect Will of God.
God’s Will is always good, acceptable, and perfect.
Great faith is to accept God’s Will
with thanksgiving.
16
Colossians 3 15 And let the peace of God rule in
your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one
body; and be ye thankful.
Too many people are always stressed
out, and it is because they don’t let the
peace of God rule in their hearts.
We must learn to accept God’s Will as what it is:
Good, acceptable, and perfect.
They resist and resent the Will of God.
17
Ephesians 5 18-20 And be not drunk with wine,
wherein is excess; but be filled with (under the
influence of) the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and
making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving
thanks always for all things unto God and the
Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
A thankful heart will stop a complaining mouth.
18
Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
That’s what King David should have done:
Given God thanks for a great victory, instead of
grieving over the loss of Absalom.
Have faith to accept the Will of God in all things.
He has good plans for your life;
believe it and receive it.

2 samuel 18b accept the will of god

  • 1. 1 Gospel Baptist Tabernacle 781 Salem Road, Rossville, GA 30741 Where the Love of God abounds, everyone is welcome. Children’s Church taught by Paul and Marsha Davis during preaching. www.rossvillechurch.com August 18, 2013
  • 2. 2 Joab killed him. Joab killed him. The revolution is over. Absalom David
  • 3. 3 16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people. 17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent. With Absalom dead and buried, the war was over. All his people ran home with their tails between their legs. Submission
  • 4. 4 18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place. His sons died very young, but he was determined that his name be remembered. Pride
  • 5. 5 He prepared his own memorial. socialism The fall
  • 6. 6 19 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies. 20 And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead. Perhaps Joab feared that David would kill the messenger who told him Absalom was dead.
  • 7. 7 21 Then said Joab to Cushi (an Ethiopian), Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran. 22 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready? Ahimaaz thought he would be bringing good news to the king -- the revolt was over. They had won.
  • 8. 8 23 But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi. 24 And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.Him took a shortcut and got ahead. He really wanted to tell King David the good news. We should have just as great a desire to tell the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • 9. 9 25 And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near. 26 And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
  • 10. 10 27 And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings. 28 And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king. This was good news!
  • 11. 11 29 And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was. 30 And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still. In verse 20 Joab told him that Absalom was dead. He just didn’t want to say so. David’s concern was for the wrong one. He should have been more concerned about his own men who had fought for him.
  • 12. 12 31 And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tid- ings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee. 32 And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is. Cushi didn’t hold back; Absalom was dead, he was glad of it, and wished all who rose against King David the very same thing.
  • 13. 13 33 And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son! Absalom had rebelled, not only against David, But also against the Will of the Lord God. God’s Will was accomplished in his death.
  • 14. 14 David’s overwhelming grief was opposing the Divine Will and Purpose of God. He should have given God thanks, as Ahimaaz did, and as the Cushite messenger did. God had saved the kingdom for David, His chosen king.
  • 15. 15 Romans 12 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect Will of God. God’s Will is always good, acceptable, and perfect. Great faith is to accept God’s Will with thanksgiving.
  • 16. 16 Colossians 3 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Too many people are always stressed out, and it is because they don’t let the peace of God rule in their hearts. We must learn to accept God’s Will as what it is: Good, acceptable, and perfect. They resist and resent the Will of God.
  • 17. 17 Ephesians 5 18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with (under the influence of) the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ; A thankful heart will stop a complaining mouth.
  • 18. 18 Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done. That’s what King David should have done: Given God thanks for a great victory, instead of grieving over the loss of Absalom. Have faith to accept the Will of God in all things. He has good plans for your life; believe it and receive it.
