This document appears to be a series of summaries and reflections on passages from 1 Samuel relating the story of Saul, Jonathan, and David. The summaries are in 3 sentences or less:
1) Jonathan and David formed an unbreakable friendship as their souls were knit together by God. Their friendship prepared David to withstand future adversity.
2) David obediently served Saul even when he could have returned home, waiting on God's timing for the throne.
3) The relationship between Jonathan and David became so close that Jonathan gave his own royal garments to David in recognition of David's election as king.

5. David killed Goliath and
brought his head to Saul.
When Samuel
anointed David,
he was just a boy.
15 years later when he
assumed the throne, David
was a seasoned leader.
5
6. 1 Samuel 18 1 And it came to pass, when he had
made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of
Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and
Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
Kindred spirits
Both trusted God, and were quick to the battle.
The Holy Spirit united them in an
unbreakable friendship.
6
7. God is giving David a friend and brother to be with
him in time of adversity.
God knows what is coming, and is preparing David
to come through it victoriously.
Pay attention to the people and other blessings that
God puts in your life.
Be grateful and take good care of the relationship.
You may be fixing to need them.
7
8. 2 AndSaul took him that day, and would let him go
no more home to his father's house.
If allowed, David would have returned to his
father's home and served him as a shepherd.
David was willing and glad to wait on God to
bring about His Will for the throne.
How many people would have been trying to make
it happen, and right now!!!
8
9. We can't make good things happen;
We can't force the Will of God to come to pass.
Allow the Hand of God to work
in you and through you.
God is setting up the future
that He has for you.
9
10. 3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant,
because he loved him as his own soul. 4 And
Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon
him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even
to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
So close did this friendship become that Jonathan,
though heir apparent to the throne of Israel,
stripped himself of his own royal regalia and
placed it on David in recognition of David’s divine
election to be king.

11. 5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent
him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him
over the men of war, and he was accepted in the
sight of all the people, and also in the sight of
Saul's servants.
David was an humble and obedient servant to Saul.
He behaved himself wisely --
He was filled with God's Holy Spirit.
11
12. We are commanded to be filled
with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18
When we walk in His anointing, power,
wisdom, and understanding,
We will behave ourselves wisely and well.
We will accomplish the Will of God for us.

13. 6 And it came to pass as they came, when David
was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine,
that the women came out of all cities of Israel,
singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with
tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.
The women came out to meet King Saul with
his victorious army.
They were singing and dancing,
Playing tambourines, and other instruments,
And filled with joy.
13
14. 7 And the women answered one another as they
played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and
David his ten thousands. 8 And Saul was very
wroth (mad), and the saying displeased him; and he
said, They have ascribed unto David ten
thousands, and to me they have ascribed but
thousands: and what can he have more but the
kingdom?
Are his besetting sins, and cause the others.
14
15. 9 And Saul eyed (jealous eye)
David from that day and
forward. 10 And it came to pass
on the morrow, that the evil
spirit from God came upon
Saul, and he prophesied in the
midst of the house: and David
played with his hand, as at Imagine the
other times: and there was a speech Saul made
javelin in Saul's hand. under the
demon's power.
15
16. 11 And Saul cast the javelin;
for he said, I will smite
David even to the wall with
it. And David avoided out of
his presence twice.
Compare David, with his harp in his hand, aiming
to serve Saul, and Saul, with his javelin in his hand,
aiming to slay David;
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary

17. 12 And Saul was afraid of
David, because the Lord
was with him, and was
departed from Saul.
Without God's Comforting Presence,
All men live in fear, and confusion, and violence.

18. James 4 5 Do ye think that the Scripture saith in
vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith,
God resisteth (opposes) the proud, but giveth grace
unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the
devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to
God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your
hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double
minded.
18
19. 5b The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy
I believe this is speaking of the spirit of man.
It is the human condition to envy others --
To want more than we have,
To imagine that others have a better life than we.
19
21. 6a But He giveth more grace.
As we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil,
we can be delivered from our human nature.
We can be more like Jonathan and David;
We don't have to be like Saul.
