2. Technology Integration Rationale
Rationale: Thankfully, many people will never have to
experience an encounter with a shark in their lifetime
but we should take some time to investigate these
amazing sea creatures. How might technology help us
learn more about sharks- where they are most
prominent, a shark’s natural habitat, and how they can
impact people and our environment.
3. Internet Content
The internet is a vital source that allows us to view an
endless number of images and videos relating to
sharks. It provides useful information on everything
from where sharks can be found to how to survive a
shark encounter. You can read all about the history of
sharks dating back to the dinosaurs ages.
The next several slides will give you examples of the
content that is available for your use.

With the times changing so rapidly, we can use other sources of
technology such as podcasts because many people now have
iPods.
7. Internet Resources
The internet provides with access to government
agencies and/or organizations that have to deal with
sharks and shark encounters. Over the course of the
next few slides, you will see examples of certain
agencies, as well as a brief description of what this
particular agency entails and how you could
incorporate this resource into your teaching of sharks.
8. Internet Resources 1

The NOAA Fisheries Office of Sustainable Fisheries is an
organization that is committed to conserving and
protecting shark populations. The NOAA Fisheries
conducts research, implements restrictions, and works
with fisherman.

The Florida Program for Shark Research is an organization of
researchers studying sharks and their relatives. The FPSR
conducts studies, collect and produces information, and
investigates certain shark encounters.
9. Internet Resources 2

pecies/Greatwhite.shtml
At Enchanted Learning, students can learn all they want
to know about sharks, specifically the Great White
Shark. This website provides diagrams, general
information and shark information sheets.
10. Kidspiration
This is a web diagram of what
a great white shark eats. These
are just a few of the things that
sharks look for when they are
hungry. This diagram was
made using Kidspiration.
11. Teaching Materials 1
There are many sites available to our students to
complete activities related to their topic and/or create
their own activities such as word searches.
Useful teaching material can be located at

316_sharkatt.html
PBS provides student handouts and different
classroom activities relating to sharks that are not only
educational but fun for the children as well.

13. Subject-Specific Resource
Reef News (http://www.reefnews.com/)
Reef news is not the most popular website for sharks but
it does provide useful information on certain sharks and
their habitats. It also provides information on other sea
creatures and reefs, as well. This website works nicely
because it allows students to hone in on a certain topic
and makes it easier for them to receive the information
they are looking for.
14. Uses of the Internet

The Whale Shark Project provides maps that can give
you insight to the 14 places you are most likely to see a
Great White Shark while diving. These spots are called
“hotspots.”

At MarineBio, you are able to invetsigate basic facts and
history of the Great White, as well as World Range and
Habitat.
15. Web 2.0
In our fast growing world of technology, social media
networks are becoming a very useful took for teachers
and students to be able to read and learn about certain
topics. Divers for Sharks intends to mobilize the diving
community and hopefully decrease the global threat to
sharks by human actions. They have a following on the
social media website Facebook.
