Dear Judges:
Like most other people, I think, I plan to go to college, and eventually have a family and
join the workforce. Right now I am planning on going to North Georgia College & State
University and majoring in chemical or mechanical engineering. One of my biggest goals
is to be able to work on my own time doing a job that I enjoy and make a lot of money
from it. I think that engineering is a great place to start, because inventors who make that
one special product can go on to be multi-millionaires.
My product is an internal combustion engine model that I designed from scratch. My
research paper was vital to this project because I did not know much about internal
combustion engines, or commonly used engines that can be found in most every
automobile, before starting this project. I had many previous plans, but I ended up with a
motorcycle engine, a V2 engine, or a v-shaped engine with two cylinders. I originally
planned to make a V8 engine, or a v-shaped engine with eight cylinders, but everything
became much more complicated than I thought. I was worried about getting fifteen hours
of work time, but once I started I was worried I would never be finished.
My senior project works hand-in-hand with a future career. Engineering can unlock
limitless possible job positions. Engineers can design things from car engines, to
children’s toys. Engineers create and design many of the things that you use daily like
toothbrushes, chairs, tables, cars, and even your home. Now that I have a fair knowledge
of the program I used for this project (Autodesk Inventor), I can make my own custom
engineered items, and I could possibly even design a new hit product.
I feel that the senior project helped better my skills in the areas of mechanical
engineering, and that it was a great learning experience. Unfortunately, I feel that the
time spent on my senior project could have been spent better doing something else. It was
a lot of work for someone who is already working on graduating, a job, family matters,
and college matters. Thank you so much for your time, I hope you enjoy my project!
Sincerely,
Daniel Barcus
