2. Botanical description:-
A moderate sized deciduous tree 25-30 ft long with
much branched crown. Leaves tri-foliate, Leaflate 5-
15cm long and 3.8-6.3cm broad, ovate, lanceolate or
obovate, acute or acuminate, the lateral leaflets oblique
at the base. Flower many dense terminal
corymbs, whitish when young and yellowish when old.
Fruits globose or ovoid, woody, smooth. Seeds
embedded in pulp, nearly smooth, brown.
Flowering & fruiting in april to may.
9. MAIN USES:-
Bark is especially useful in urinary complaints and
kidney and bladder stones as
Asmari, mutrakrchhra, UTI, Vastisul,vidradhi, g
ulma, gandmala, fresh leaves are tonic.
10. Some classical uses:-
Asmari: varun root & stem bark paste as well as
decoction. (V.M)
Gandamala: Decoction of varun root is taken with
honey.(V.M)
Vyanga: the stem bark of varun is applied externally with
goat’s milk.(C.D)
Vataj bedna: shigru & varun root rubbed with kanji is
applied externally.(B.P)
Kikkisa: paste of varuna leaves is applied over supra
pubic area.(R.M)
Arsha: tub bath with decoction of varuna leaves.(chakradutt)
