Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are high performance building panels used in floors, walls, and roofs for residential and light commercial buildings. The panels are typically made by sandwiching a core of rigid foam plastic insulation between two structural skins of oriented strand board (OSB). Other skin material can be used for specific purposes. SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be custom designed for each home. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labor.
Typical construction is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam with sheathing material (OSB most common, but plywood, or in some cases, high-density concrete board) on both sides. Also can have single sided panels (insulated nail base) made to be applied over T&G decking for roof systems utilizing a beam & perlin system. Enercept will make blank panels, or for roughly the same price will do all the pitch/angle cuts, create rough openings, and create electrical & plumbing chases in the panels.
Lifetime warranty for the current home owner. A 10 year transferable warranty would apply to the next owner (10 yrs from date of sale).
We will provide a field technician on site to assist with installation and to answer questions in a timely manner.
We use this background as the basis for our panel construction. You get best of both worlds with Enercept SIPs. We are taking “old-school” technology and improving structure and thermal envelope.
The variance in energy savings is really dependant upon RO size and type of windows and doors used.
We really emphasize real cost savings from day one. A $20-40/month increase in mortgage (worst case scenerio) is off-set by a $100-200 reduction in heating bills showing a cost savings on day one.
This is a residential development that we were a part of in 2004 where the developer and homeowners allowed us to track heating bills over the course of a year. SIPs outperformed stick-frame with fiberglass insulation consistantly.
This development was built in Brookings, SD last year. As in the last slide, we were able to track heating bills from Sept. 1 thru Feb. 1 to realize the variance in savings. Spray foam (icynene in this case) is a great product, but for new construction, SIPs are most likely cheaper that stick & spray foam, and don’t have the solid wood from front to back in the walls. That is the real variance between energy costs in a stick/spray foam house and a SIP house.
EPS and styrofoam are not the same thing, but for layman’s terms, that’s what I use to get the point across. Pentane is expelled during the expansion of the foam, but is completely released prior to the manufacturing of the panels. No off-gassing problems exist with our panels.
Each panel is double checked against shop drawings prior to loading onto truck for delivery
Drop shipped to job site. If a problem exists with our panels, we will make new panel and pay for crews onsite if there is a down time problem. Must contact Enercept right away. This doesn’t hardly ever happen.
Can do about 200 lin. Ft. of wall a day. About 1500-2000 sq. ft of roof in a day (with proper lifting equipment)
Example of lifting a panel into place. Use an eye bolt through the panel to connect to lifting equipment. Spray foam void after installed.
Also can work off a purchase order for commercial projects.
