Internet. The service is free if the other user also has a
Skype account.
Pedagogical Uses

 Be available for ‘ask me’ sessions.
Research Uses
 Distance meetings with collaborative partners
Installing Software
Skype is installed on all computers across the University,
but if you would like to install on your home computer/
smartphone:
 Go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/get-skype/
 Find the appropriate ‘Get Skype for…’, and allow the
programme to extract itself.
 Once an icon like this appears, you can log in.
Setting Up an Account
 Go to http://www.skype.com/ & click:
 You can register using your Facebook account, or follow
the straightforward instructions.

2. Defining Your Profile
 Go to Skype Profile Edit Profile
 Ensure you add a picture,; information ‘About Me’.
Finding Contacts
 Go to ‘Contacts’ ‘Add a contact’
 You can search for contacts via
their email address, name, or
(most efficiently), if you know
their Skype name.
Have a Conversation
 Click on a user
 Choose whether to have an audio or a video call.
 Chat via voice and/or text.
 Press the ‘telephone icon’
to end the call.
Group Conversations
Multiple users can talk to
each other via Skype, but
video is only available with a
paid option.
