Tim Berners-Lee four principles of Linked Data in Design Issues: Linked Data (2006,2009):
• Use URIs to identify things.
• Use HTTP URIs so that these things can be referred to
and looked up ("de-referenced") by people and user agents.
• Provide useful information (i.e., a structured description — metadata) about
the thing when its URI is de-referenced, using standard formats such as RDF-XML.
• Include links to other, related URIs in the exposed data to improve discovery
of other related information on the Web.

The award-winning Where Once We Walked
(WOWW) has been completely revised and
updated to reflect the changes in the political
geography of Central and Eastern Europe
since WOWW was published in 1991. There
are also a number of improvements to the
original edition noted below. The new edition
identifies more than 23,500 towns in Central
and Eastern Europe where Jews lived

Providing content and meaning
(semantics) for new digital creation
Access to extremely large amounts of structured data enables new sophisticated
services. Reference tools and vocabularies are needed to bridge from data into knowledge.
