What is the Ultranet? The Ultranet is an online learning environment that: ,[object Object]
connects students, teachers and parents; and
enables the sharing of information and knowledge.The Ultranet gives every Victorian government school community the opportunity to participate in a learning environment of the future.
What does the Ultranet do? Connects you to the whole school community, your child and their teachers  Supports your child’s learning Gives you access to your child’s learning progress Prepares your child for life and work in the 21st century Gives teachers tools to create and plan learning activities and share resources
What does the Ultranet include?
How is privacy protected? Strict privacy and security controls Online community restricted to schools Users can only access appropriate information Parents/guardians CAN see: information about your child/or students in your care information from the school that they attend.   Parents/guardians CANNOT see:  information about any other students  information about any other school.   More privacy information is available in The Ultranet: An introduction for parents
Our timeline for the Ultranet All teachers in our school are trained In 2011, students in Years 9 and 10 log in From January 2011, parents will be invited to log in From 2011 our school will use the Ultranet more and more in our classrooms
How will students use the Ultranet? Set personal learning goals  Join online learning communities  Search for great resources  Use Web 2.0 tools   Submit tasks online and get feedback  Store school work online Share learning progress with parents

How do parents get access? Parents will receive a Welcome Letter in February Parents need to register using the information provided in the letter  Parents can then log into the Ultranet using their username and password created during the registration process Sample Welcome Letter

The Ultranet gives every Victorian government school community the opportunity to participate in a learning environment of the future.
  2. Connects – teachers, students and parents within this school, and to communities in other schools across Victoria.Supports – students to understand an online environment and why sharing and gathering information online is important. Gives students an opportunity to learn new skills and apply them in their work. Prepares – students for work and life in a digital world. Shows them how to create and share information, who can see it, and how to be safe online, in a secure environment. Create, plan and share – which means more interesting and relevant activities for kids, and gives teachers access to resources and like-minded communities.
  3. Schools will use the Ultranet differently depending on the focus they think is most relevant to their community. In our school in the next twelve months, our student focus will be on:Examples: <The school to add their own plans for the student focus for Ultranet implementation> Set personal learning goals and monitor their progressJoin online learning communities around topics they are interested in or are studying for a school projectSearch for great resources to use for school projects.Use Web 2.0 tools to collaborate with their parents, teachers and other students. Submit tasks online and get feedback from teachers.Store all their work and learning in one place.Share their progress and learning with their parents.
  4. This page shows a sample of a Teacher Home page.On this page the teacher can easily access their school notices, requests from other teachers and they can at any time see who their Learning Contacts are.

You will be able to access the Ultranet at your own convenience, from any computer with internet access, and at a time that suits you.You will have access to:Home page - navigate from the Home page to see your child’s learning information, our school information and parent communitiesLearner Profile - where you can access your child’s attendance records, timetables, homework, learning progress information, teacher feedback and your child’s Learning Goals and Learning PortfolioCommunity Spaces - where the latest school news and events will be posted and you can get involved in school-based groups, clubs or activities
  6. This is a sample parent Home Page. You can see that you are linked to your child’s profile, you can view notices form our school and see the spaces that you have joined. From the home page, if you click on the Learner Profile button (under the student’s picture) it will take straight to their Learner Profile. (GO TO NEXT SLIDE)
