This document outlines an English project at Skoutari's Lyceum school for the 2012-2013 school year. The topic is British and American cinema, from documentaries to cartoons. The project aims to promote English language use and develop students' reading, writing, and research skills through collaboration and presentations. Students will work in groups to research and present on different movie genres. One group will focus on documentary films. Another will cover action movies, discussing genres and plot summaries. A third will examine adventure movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. A fourth will provide context on the history of cartoons and animated films like Inspector Gadget and Ratatouille. SOMETHING ABOUT
CARTOON’S HISTORY
• A cartoon is a form of two-dimensional illustrated visual art. While the specific definition has
changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-realistic or semi-realistic drawing or
painting intended for satire, caricature, or humor, or to the artistic style of such works. An artist
who creates cartoons is called a cartoonist.
• Walt Disney was born on December 5th, 1901, in Chicago and died on December 15th, 1966, in
California L.A.
• He was an American movie producer, director, scriptwriter and cartoon designer.
• Cartoons are movies in which drawn figures star instead of actors. The heroes are usually
animals or fictional creatures with funny faces that speak and react as if they were human beings.
The creation of cartoons as well as other movies is based on metaisthima.
• At first the scenes of the cartoon movie were drawn separately. The first drawings were put on
transparencies and then drawn to create a moving cartoon hero. Every drawing was slightly
different from the next one. Then all drawings were photographed on the row and so the whole
film was made. When the film was shown the figures looked like they were really moving.
• The first cartoons’ film was shot by S. Blakton in 1907, but Walt Disney’s movies were real works
of art.
18. THESE ARE THE CARTOONS WE DEALED
WITH:
1.Inspector Gadget
2.Raining Meatballs
3.Barbie
4.Mickey Mouse
5.Ratatouille
19. HERE ARE SOME USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR
WORK:
• The cartoons are movies that enjoy young and older people as well.
Through cartoons we watch technology developing, and new
gadgets appearing that are very useful to mankind. We also follow
the development of new methods of preventing crime through the
use of these gadgets. Moreover, family issues are touched upon, for
example the fact that babies are ‘delivered’ by a stork in some
cartoons. This shows that the heroes want to continue behaving in
an innocent way towards kids. However in ‘Barbie’ series we have a
wedding taking place but not children being born. Except for that,
cartoons often show the customs and the culture of a people, its
traditions and habits. In every cartoon friendship plays an extremely
important role in the relationships of the heroes; pets are always
depicted as the hero’s best friend as well. The world sees down on
less bright heroes and tries to lessen their confidence and
smartness.
• The innocent and less evil heroes are the ones that always win.
• There is always a pet that befriends the heroes.
