Gasoline is made from crude oil through a process called fractional distillation where different carbons separate at different temperatures in a refinery. Crude oil comes from organic material burned under great pressure and heat to form oil, which has properties like density and viscosity and comes in 5 primary types. While gasoline powers most cars, it is also flammable and produces dangerous fumes, and oil spills contaminate seafood and endanger wildlife. The current oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been leaking over 5,000 barrels per day for a month.
