 Taking the “Extraordinary” Mobile
Based on the goals that we discussed in out initial meeting regarding updating your current website, I believe that we should take some time to consider implementing a mobile marketing strategy. Based on a 2012 Google
report 75% of customers prefers a mobile friendly site. This is why I believe that Collins Catering should utilize a combination of a mobile and desktop experience, which would result in more engaged clients across
devices.
Some 88% of U.S. adults own a cell
phone of some kind as of April 2012, and
more than half of these cell owners
(55%) use their phone to go online.

           Moreover, 31% of these
         current cell internet users say
that they mostly go online using
their cell phone, and not using
some other device such as a
          desktop or laptop computer.

                                                                                                                                                                                                (Aaron, 2012)
In an article written for netmagzine.com by Luke Wroblewski titled, “Mobile first”, we are offered insights into why we should consider utilize mobile in our marketing strategy. Luke wrote, “…the three key reasons why:
mobile is seeing explosive growth; mobile forces you to focus; and mobile extends your capabilities.” Based on a report I came across we can see that the we want to pay attention to this growing market as “some 88% of
U.S. adults own a cell phone of some kind as of April 2012, and more than half of these cell owners (55%) use their phone to go online. Moreover, 31% of these current cell Internet users say that they mostly go online
using their cell phone, and not using some other device such as a desktop or laptop computer.”
49% of mobile and
                               tablet users conduct
                                  local business
                                 searches on apps

                                                                                      ("Localeze/15miles fifth annual," 2012)

In addition 49% of mobile and tablet users conduct local business searches on apps.
Current Options

Modify code and design to work on mobile devices

                                    Optimized layout for handhelds devices

                         Choices
                           WML
                           HTML 5
                           CSS3
                           XHTML (Dawson, 2010)
There are various technologies we can use to make your website accessible on all devices. One of the options is to alter the coding on your existing site to accommodate the various devices a user will use to access the
site. With this option we will currently run in a problem…not all devices support CSS3.

Another option is to develop a separate mobile site. This will afford the users to have an optimized experience on both the desktop and mobile devices. I believe this to be the better option. What we would do is route users
to either the mobile or desktop site based on what device they are using. We would allow the user to choose what experience they would like to have by offering the option to access either site.

Our company will utilize the best choice for the development of the mobile site. There are some options like: WML, XHTML mobile profile, HTML 5

                                                                                                ERROR PAGE
In the article written by Tom Wentworth for Mashable.com he shares a picture of a mobile application gone bad. “Flash-driven sites may look terrific on a traditional browser, but on mobile devices, that
fantastic-looking site will display an error message. When it comes to slow page loads or complex navigation, according to Aberdeen, a one-second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in
conversion.” wrote Tom.

While desktop Web sites often contain a wide range of content, mobile sites should include only the most crucial functions and features as the example Orbitz mobile Web. Mobile site designs should give
priority to the features and content users are most likely to need when viewing a site using a mobile device.

Another example of a poor site. This is cluttered and hard to read and
navigate.

application.
