2. Site Requirements
• 11 Separate sites (1 for each language) + 1 content management system, redirected from
single splash page
• Ability to handle non-latin scripts, without the need for users to install client-side script
programs
• Interface for each site is completely in selected language, including controls, etc.
• Sites are completely synchronized, so a user would be able to view the same site in another
languages at the click of a button
• 900px screen size
3. Site navigation
• Splash page http://www.langaugeofsettlement.org – Users will be able to choose a language
on this page
• Redirects to site for this language
• Each page will have a separate domain name ( e.g. www.urdusettlement.org), however these
could redirect to subdomain in language of settlement (e.g urdu.settlement.org)
4. MyLOS - Overview
• Simple signup process – To sign up, a user would simply enter their email address, and a
confirmation would be sent their email account. From there a user could sign up by pressing
on a confirmation link and choosing a password. Users would be able to subscribe up for the
newsletter without signing up for newsletter
• MyLOS Login – The login would appear prominently on each page of the application. Once a
user is signed in a link the myLOS page would be featured prominently in the site menu
• MyLOS page – This page would contain personalized features for users, including tracking
favourites, receiving alerts and providing feedback.
• MyLOS toolbar – This toolbar would appear on the article page, and would provide tools for
users to personalize the article.
5. MyLOS Features
1. Update alerts – Users would receive email updates of articles or subjects that they are
interested in. Additionally, when users are logged in, they receive an alert (pop-up) if they
have any new updates. These updates would let users know if an existing article has been
removed or changed, or if a new article in their chosen category has been added. Users
would view updates on the myLOS page, and would also have the option of editing their
preferred articles or subjects.
2. Profile – Users could enter information about themselves and their organization, including
uploading a logo, which would be used to ‘brand’ articles printed on the site
3. Favourites – Users could tag articles as favourites, which they could access on their myLOS
page.
4. Feedback – Users would be able to send messages in their language of choice to site
coordinator

4. History – This feature, available to users on the myLOS page would allow users to view a list
of articles they have downloaded and personalized etc.
5. Article Branding – This features, available on the myLOS toolbar on the article page, would
allow users to ‘brand’ an article with their organization address and logo when it’s printed.
6. Notes – Users would be able to write notes in the language of their choice which would be
printed along with the article, and ‘branded’ with the org name and logo
7. LOS Site Search
• As this is project is, at its core, an electronic document archive, the site search is of critical
importance. It should be able to perform searches in a number of different scripts, based
on a wide range of parameters.
• Google site search – The premium version of Google’s search Engine fully indexes the site
and searches articles in many different languages and scripts.
• Customizing – The site needs to be customized to fit with the site, and customized to search
using the parameters specific to LOS
8. Sharing
• This page would allow users to subscribe to an RSS feed, which the could post on their page
• The feed would be customized to allow user to select a feed based on the language, and
would display recently updated or added documents
9. Content Management System
• Similar to the Settlement.Org content management system, using the parent/child model,
with each child representing a different language
• Use Unicode or other similar method encoding to ensure correct characters are
entered/retrieved from databases
• CMS UI would be in English only
