The Language of Geometry and Learning about the
past through images
Dear Parents,
I would like to thank you for returning the portfolios today with your own
reflections on your child’s learning. I hope discussing the portfolio with your child
was a worthwhile and authentic way to set learning goals and celebrate success.
This week we spent a considerable amount of time constructing our
understandings of geometrical language. We’ll continue our explorations into
geometry next week and eventually will connect and extend understandings through
the art of Wassily Kandinsky.
We’ve started our investigation into the language features and organizational
structures of narrative texts. We’ll continue this next week and directly relate our
understandings to historical fiction. Over time, students will use their own historical
research to create their own pieces of historical fiction.
If you look at the earlier post, you will find a Youtube link to a very interesting
video of Hong Kong in 1938. The students were quite fascinated by it and made
some excellent connections. In addition, there are two links in this blog (below) to
articles in the South China Morning Post about the cemetery in Happy Valley and the
myriad of stories about it and its inhabitants. It was great to see the students find
some of these stories on their own following our field trip there. We will the Hong
Kong Museum of History on Wednesday to continue our inquiries into history.
Upcoming Events:
March 16 - Field trip to history museum
March 22 - Alan Dick Memorial Walk
Week of March 28: Festival of the Arts
Kind Regards,
