from the list of irregular verbs. The past
form is on the second column.

3. To write the affirmative form you only have to
write the subject (I, You… Mary…) and then
the verb in the past using the form from the
second column.

8. Regular verbs are not on the list. These verbs
follow certain rules to form the past.
They add “ed” to the verb to form the past.
ex. Listen (present) – listened (past)
look (present) – looked (past)
9. These are the rules you have to take into
account:
1. If the verbs ends in “-y” and has a vowel
before it, you have to change the “-y” by “-
i” and then add “ed”
ex. Study - studied
try – tried
2. If the verb ends in “-y” but before it has a
vowel, you add “ed” without changing
anything
ex. Play - played
10. If the verb ends in “-e” you only add “-d”
ex. Move - moved
Sometimes you have to double the last letter
(double the consonant when you have a consonant
after a short stressed vowel at the end of the
word)
ex. Stop – stopped
