Objective of raising awareness and bring about
change that will:
Protect the lives of patients and health workers by ensuring
the structural resilience of health facilities;
Ensure health facilities and health services are able to
function in the aftermath of emergencies and disasters, when
they are most needed;
Improve the risk reduction capacity of health workers and
institutions, including emergency management.

Hospitals Campaign

This initiative is also linked to the 2010 – 2011
World DRR Campaign “ Building Resilient
Cities – My city is getting ready!”
The initiative has the slogan
“Make a Pledge, Save a Life”
The Campaign is to encourage all relevant
stakeholders, from individual to institutional
level, to make a pledge for a school or hospital
and make them safer now to survive disasters.

8. “Making Cities Resilient,”
2010-2011
- launched in March 2010
The overall goal of the campaign is to achieve
resilient, sustainable urban communities, with a
growing number of local governments that are taking
actions to reduce the risks to disasters.
A longer term objective following the campaign is to
empower local governments with stronger national
policies to invest in risk reduction at local level, as
part of urban and regional development plans.
