Editor's Notes
Cisco & Rockwell Automation have been working together for several years, and most recently announced they are delivering value in 4 areas… Common technology view: Support use of open, unmodified standards, with intelligent networking features in automation networks. We do this through developing our respective products and systems using standard technologies and participating in organizations such as the ODVA and ISA to drive open standards Collaborating on reference architectures: Detailed design and implementation guidance and best practices for a converged network architecture . We are working together on the Ethernet to the Factory architecture. People and process optimization: Develop process and design guidelines, facilitate training and dialogue with IT and Manufacturing. Working off the same architectural models is a big step, but further communication, training, and dialogue is needed to drive convergence of network requirements and an improved relationship between IT and MFG. We will be working together on educational seminars, events, white papers, and other activities to help facilitate increased understanding. Joint product Collaboration: a new line of modular, industrial switches featuring the best of RA & Cisco – designed to make both IT and Controls professionals confident & successful.
This new line of industrial modular switches was designed with the best of RA and the best of Cisco inside, designed to make both IT and Manufacturing / Controls people confident & successful. IT can manage these switches in the same way as all other Cisco switches, with the same Operating System, feature set and user interface Controls can work with these switches as part of the automation system, with premier integration into Rockwell Automation’s Integrated Architecture and a host of plant-floor friendly features Global and Smartport refer to macros – grouping of command line interface (CLI) commands to simplify setup for non IT personnel
