Diamonds With A Story | Diamonds For Every Occasion
1. Diamonds for Every Occasion
Versatile diamonds, in their many glorious sizes and settings, can dazzle anywhere
from the beach to the boardroom. Choosing the right piece depends on both your
personality and the tone of the event, says celebrity stylist and jewelry expert Michael
O’Connor. Some occasions call for simplicity, while others are a chance to bring out
the bling.
Working Out
A small accessory can dress up a pair of yoga pants, whether you’re headed for post-
Pilates brunch or pre-spin-class shopping. Stick to just a touch of bling while you burn
calories—avoid anything that will impede your workout. “I see women at the gym in
diamonds—they are wearing things that are very simple and classic,” O’Connor says,
naming stud earrings, line bracelets, eternity bands and diamond pendants as frequent
gym-goers.
The Office
Diamonds worn to work should be office appropriate, matching environments that may
vary from a conservative bank to an edgy boutique. Take cues from the tone of your
industry and your colleagues’ style.
In a law office, for instance, a simple but stunning Riviera necklace may be more
suitable than a lavish bib diamond necklace. “It’s a little more tailored and less design
oriented,” O’Connor notes. Pieces such as stud earrings, simple hoops and jaw-length
drop earrings are all appropriate for formal offices.
Cocktails
Parties lend themselves to dressing up a bit, so don’t fear doing something on the
daring side. Cocktail parties and happy hours are sometimes held after work, so
consider which pieces are versatile enough to take you from day to night. O’Connor
encourages budding fashionistas to think about nontraditional uses for diamonds.
“Clustering some studs on a lapel could be an interesting, unusual way to dress up an
outfit,” he says. “Or take a Riviera necklace and wrap it a couple of times around your
2. wrist to do an interesting bracelet—it really gives you that big, important look around
the wrist.”
Black Tie
At a formal event like a wedding or gala, “you can do no wrong when it comes to
diamonds,” O’Connor says. “Formal occasions are when you need to let it shine. Bring
out the big guns—if you’ve got a bib diamond necklace, wear it. That’s your
opportunity to really sparkle.” To get the stylish look that many celebs show off on the
red carpet, stack several line or day-length bracelets on your wrist, or mix diamond
necklaces with non-diamond necklaces.♦
