SUGGESTION
Explanation text is a text which tells processes
relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and
cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say
‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena.
It is often found in Science, Geography and
History text books.
The purpose of Explanation text is to
explain the processes involved in the
formation and working of natural or
socialcultural phenomena.
Like why and how tsunami happen,
the procceses of raining, or how
earthuake occurs, how Photosynthesis
works and etc.
 Explanation text can be divide into three parts:
 The first part is General Statement:
In a general statement contains a general explanation of the phenomenon
to be discussed, the phenomenon could be the introduction or explanation.
 The second part is A Sequenced of Explanation:
A sequenced of explanation contains an explanation about why the
phenomenon may occur or be created. A sequenced of explanation in the
form of answers to the question 'why' and 'how' the writer when creating a
text Explanation. In sequenced of explanation can contain more than one
paragraph.
 The third part is A Closing Part:
Actually closing it is not listed in the generic structure of the Explanation
text, but most people assume that the last paragraph of the Explanation text
is closing, but it is part of sequenced of explanation which contains the final
step described in section sequenced of explanation.
 Focus on Generic or Non-human Participant
Example: Sun,Rain,Tree etc
 Using Chronological Connection
Example : to begin with, next, after that etc
 Using Simple Present Tense
Example: A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or a sea is
rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
 Using Passive Voice
Example: A tsunami will be generated when the seafloor abruptly deforms and
vertically displaces the overlying water.
 The Use of Action Verb
Example: Movement, Move, etc.
 Using General and Abstract Nouns
Example: Vertical, Horizontal, Height, etc.
 Using Noun Phrase
Example: A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or a sea is
rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
 Using Complex Sentences
Example: A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or a sea is
rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
The term of “tsunami” comes from the Japanese which
means harbour ("tsu") and wave ("nami").
A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in
a lake or a sea is rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
A tsunami can be generated when the sea floor
abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying
water. Such large vertical movements of the earth's
crust can occur at plate boundaries.
Subduction of earthquakes are particularly effective in
generating tsunami, and occur where denser oceanic
plates slip under continental plates.
As the displaced water mass moves under the
influence of gravity to regain its equilibrium, it radiates
across the ocean like ripples on a pond.
A general
statement
A
sequence
dexplanat
ion of
why or
how
somethin
g occurs
Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the
damage is caused by the huge mass of water
behind the initial wave front, as the height of the sea
keeps rising fast and floods powerfully into the
coastal area.

We can conclude that Explanation text are:
 Is a text which tells processes relating to forming
of natural, social, scientific and culturalphenomena.
 Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the
forming of the phenomena.
 It is often found in science, geography and
history text books.
 With explanation text you can give reason why
something happen or how something occurs
 With explanation text you can express
wishes,complaints,giving orders and giving
suggestion also
 This is how to compose an explanation text. Here I have a few suggestions to consider in writing an
explanation text. Before preparing the text, we have to watch or read the encyclopedia or documentary
films. When watching or reading, we can make a small note. Write key incidents occurred in the process.
Repeat watch or read the important part. After that, we can develop into paragraphs
 And these are few step to make an Explanation text:
 Write a title at the top of your page explaining what your piece of writing is about. Try to ask a
question in your title – for example, ‘Why were dead people mummified?’
 Write a few sentences to explain what are you going to explain and what they were used for.
 Start a new paragraph. In this paragraph EXPLAIN how or why something built, occur, happen, works
etc. To do this, break down the process into steps. Try to use the following connectives in your writing:
firstly, secondly, next, after that, then, later and finally. Draw diagrams to help explain your writing if
needed – make sure these are drawn neatly and coloured in well.
 Start a new paragraph; use this paragraph to end your explanation writing by summarising what you
have written about.
 Read back through your work to check that it makes sense.
THANK
YOU
