THE CLIENT MR. MACALLISTER IS RESTORING A CENTURY OLD COACH HOUSE
TO GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE TO SHINE IN THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OF
DOWNTOWN MUSKEGON. TUCKED BEHIND A BEAUTIFUL HOME, THE COACH
HOUSE IS CURRENTLY USED FOR STORAGE AND A GARAGE.
AFTER A SURVEY OF THE PROPERTY, THE PROPOSAL TO RESTORE THE COACH
HOUSE INCLUDED KEEPING AS MANY EXISTING ELEMENTS AS POSSIBLE

THE GRAND TRUNK DEPOT WAS BUILT IN 1908 AS A PASSENGER AND FREIGHT DEPOT IN DOWNTOWN MUSKEGON,
MICHIGAN. NUMEROUS TRAVELERS SET FOOT IN THIS BUILDING THROUGHOUT THE 1900’S WHEN THE CITY WAS
KNOWN AS THE ‘LUMBER QUEEN’ AND ‘THE CITY THAT REBUILT CHICAGO’. OVER THE YEARS THE BUILDING HAS SAT
UNOCCUPIED AND THE NON-PROFIT GROUP, DOWNTOWN MUSKEGON NOW, HAS INVITED THE COMMUNITY TO BRING
IT BACK TO LIFE. TO PRESERVE THE HISTORICAL INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE, THIS PROJECT INVITED INTERIOR DE-
SIGNERS TO DEVELOP THE SPACE INTO ONE THAT WILL FIT THE CITY TODAY.
