2. 1 Payout Limits
(Tote, Exotic, SP, All On and Yankee type bets)
Payout limits apply to
Win, Place, Swinger, Exacta, Trifecta, Quartet,
Double, Place Accumulator, Jackpot, Pick
3, Pick 6,Soccer Special, Starting Price, All-to-
Come and Yankee type bets.
Payouts will be limited to the lesser of R500
000 ticket limits or R500 000/1 odds limit.
2
3. Examples:
If Hollywood lays a Jackpot that pays R630 000 to a
R1 unit and a customer (syndicate of customers
or any group of people acting in conjunction with
each other as may be determined by Hollywood
in its sole discretion) catches it once (100%), the
R500 000 ticket limit will apply – dividend paid =
R500 000.
If Hollywood lays a tickets totaling 20% of a Pick 6
that pays R700 000 to a R1 unit, the R500 000/1
odds limit will apply. Payout will be 20% of R500
000 – dividend paid = R100 000.
3
4. 2 Open Bet Limit (local and international where the net
pools are below R500 000)
An open bet is a bet offered by Hollywood on one or
more events in which no fixed odds are agreed at the
time the bet is placed and the winnings and therefore
the payout is determined after the outcome of the
event on which such bet was struck becomes
known, with reference to dividends generated by a
totalisator.
Winning limits shall also apply to
Win, Place, Swinger, Exacta, Trifecta, Quartet, Double, Pl
ace Accumulator, Jackpot, Pick 3, Pick 6 and Soccer
Special. The maximum winnings in respect thereof will
be limited to THE TOTAL NET POOL LIMIT of the local
SAFTOTE pool.
4
5. EXAMPLE: if the total available pool on an Exacta
is R2 500, then this is maximum payout that may
be distributed to a customer who has selected the
winning combination/s regardless of the stakes or
the number of tickets.
If Hollywood laid 1 000 winning Exactas to a
customer and the SAFTOTE dividend was
R3.50, how much would Hollywood pay out if the
SAFTOTE Pool Limit is R2 500?
5
R2 500
1 000 x R3.50 = R3 500 exceeds the SAFTOTE
pool limit (R2 500)
6. The open bet payouts will be limited by the number
of dividends being paid by the totalisator. The
totalisator pools will be divided by the number of
open bet dividends paying for that race. Therefore if
a race is paying 4 places, the totalisator place pool will
be divided by 4 and that value shall be applied to each
placing.
EXAMPLE: if the net swinger pool is R3 000 and there
are 3 swingers to be paid, the net pool for each swinger
will be R1 000 (R3 000/3 swingers) and this shall be the
open bet limit applied. Therefore if swingers are caught
by a customer with Hollywood, and the total payout is
R1 300, this payout will be limited to R1 000. The same
applies to all open bets.
6
7. Example:
1. A punter takes a single swinger 3&4 for R200.
The winning swingers (plus dividends) are
1&3 (R6.20), 3&4 (R19.70) and 1&4 (R7.00).
The net swinger pool is R3 000
How much will the punter receive as a pay-
out?
7
• R3 000/3 swingers = R1 000 (limit)
• R200 x R19.70 = R3 940 exceeds the limit
• and so he/she receives only R1 000
8. • If you lay more than one bet below the confirmation limit
and it adds up to the confirmation limit then it must be
called through to the Betting Support Centre (BSC).
• Please note that the maximum for horse racing multiples
is R100 000. If any bet you put through your system is
over R100 000, please reduce it to the R100 000. We do
not want clerks confirming bets for
R300 000/R400 000. You are wasting the client’s time, as
well as your time.

20. From the previous set of slides, it is clear that
there is a lot to remember.
This is why we suggest that you print the
summary of the confirmation limits and place
them next to your terminal.
21.
22. You need to know and to practice the
confirmation procedures with the BSC and
Events office when phoning them to confirm a
bet that is at or above the confirmation limit.
23. You need to know and to practice the
confirmation procedures with the BSC and
Events office when phoning them to confirm a
bet that is at or above the confirmation limit.
If you lay more than one bet below the
confirmation limit and it adds up to the
confirmation limit then it must be confirmed
with BSC. Clients should not have access to
these documents.
Confirm bets before printing the ticket.
24. 1. IDENTIFY YOURSELF (“This is Beauty Ndlovu
from Bushbuckridge”)
2. The event in which the horse is running e.g.
Scottsville race 7.
3. The name & number of horse and the bet
type, e.g., King Jace #4 to win.
4. The bet amount e.g. 30 000 / 2 000
25. 1. IDENTIFY YOURSELF (“This is Adam from
Argyle”)
2. The various events along with the relevant
team names.
3. In the event of more than 5 teams only the 1st
and last team needs to be called along with
the number of teams selected.
4. 3. The bet amount e.g. 100 000 / 100
29. On your turfsport you will notice that each
betting sheet has a time. This time is when the
event should close and no further bets may be
taken
30. Obviously you will be unable to take the
customer’s bet when the race has been closed
but what happens if you notice that the time is
past this cut-off time?
Phone the Betting Support Centre (BSC,
Control Centre, Sports office) to ask them to
close it.
The BSC may have made a mistake and they
will really appreciate it if you remind them to
close it.
31. Before you put in the stake you are able to see
the accumulated odds.
If you take the accumulated odds and times it
by the stake you will be able to see how much
the 4 horse bet (the quad) would work out to.
If the odds work out to 20 000/1 or higher, and
the punter plays R5 that would give you R100
000/R5.
You would need to confirm this bet because
R100 000 is the maximum that you can play for
a Yankee and a Canadian.
