5. Owned Content vs. Shared Content
• Owned content is any content
that you host. For an example, a
blog.
• Shared content is any content
that lives on a social network.
• You want to strive to have owned
content as your base, since you
control it.
6. Owned Content – What does this
really mean?
Get your website in order before you
even think about social media.
7. And what about shared content?
Do no more than what you can reasonably
do while also keeping up your website.
8. What do I do?
Before anything else, I check each social
network to see if anyone has responded
and reply as needed.
15. Only Schedule Twitter
• Facebook wants you on
Facebook when you post.
• Even when you schedule
in Facebook, your reach
will be hurt.
• Things go wrong.
16. What should your schedule look like?
• Check your Facebook and Twitter analytics.
• In addition to demographics, both tell you when your fans
are on.
• Experiment with what will accommodate your fans and
your personal schedule.
17. Discovery Days
• This is when you spend time
in your area as a tourist.
• Take pictures when you’re out
and about.
• Ask about relevant upcoming
specials.
• Show your face and create
partners.
26. Promote your content
Don’t let it just sit there.
Move it yourself.
• Ask an open-ended question
when posting the link.
• Tag relevant organizations
and hashtags.
• Put money behind it.
27. Promoting your content
• Message interested parties
• Ambassadors
• Partners
• Bloggers
• Make sure it’s relevant and
don’t spray & pray.
28. Promote your content
• Strategic follows and sharing
• There are lots of accounts out there that have the audience you
want. They are not necessarily your direct competition.
• Make the first move by following them, sharing their content and
conversing with them.
• They will be more likely to share your content when you ask.
