We’re communicating in a new way – and we’re doing business in a new way, largely due to social media and technology.

But these new tools have also changed your market.
Through the use of social media, your market has started arranging itself in communities. Within the communities conversations are taking place. I.e., word-of-mouth (on steroids) What used to be you market, is now a collection of communities. And the consumer is in control – largely due to social media. So what does that mean to you?
You’ll still want to use your traditional methods. Direct mail, radio spots, print advertising . . . But to a lesser extent, as they are becoming less effective, and there are now less expensive ways of getting your message out. rely on your e-mail distributions and your website. But, the way you can use these tools has also changed, and can be more powerful if you partner them with social media. Social media expands your reach because it is easy to use, being embraced by the masses, and cost effective The first thing you want to do is to start participating . . . as a consumer. Then decide why you want to use social media as a business tool – as a means to an end. Don’t use it sell. And don’t use it to market . . . Use it to un-market. That means participating by adding value to the conversation. No matter what your objective for using social media, you will likely want to use it to drive traffic to your website.
The use of social media as a business tool means your website is more important than ever. We don’t call it marketing anymore, but un-marketing. Communities have replaced your market. New media…new rules…new game. So you shouldn’t be surprised that your website will play a different role as well. This means making your site interactive. You must have a call-to-action. It may mean adding a blog, a video, an interactive survey or printable coupon. “ Stickable” now needs to be “shareable” “ Current” now needs to be “fresh” “ Searchable” now needs to be “findable”
