From the Editor
A new Rotaract year has dawned, and with it comes
the promise and challenge of a lifetime of memories
to be made.
As we embark on many an Installation to signify the
start of a new year, lets also celebrate the successes
of the past year at the recently concluded Assembly
It is my pleasure to attempt to encapsulate some
of the noteworthy and impactful projects done this
year, and it is without doubt that the next quarter
will see many more to come as the Clubs move into
action mode.
Let’s strive to set the standard for clubs and other
districts to aspire to, and make a difference while
having a good time and making new friends all at
the same time! No other movement can offer the
same experience, so here’s to looking forward to a
wonderful year ahead.

months into the Rotaract year

Lanka to be part of Rotaract.

I live in an imaginary world most of the time. I can get along
with anybody easily coz I quickly can adapt myself to different
people and different settings.
I observe people very carefully when I am in a bus or walking
on the road and come to my own conclusions. It’s fun to
observe actions of people without that person knowing that
someone is watching him/her.
I love to cook different food items (The things we don’t eat
regularly) and serve my family members the food I cook and
I’m extremely happy when I get a positive feedback. The thing
is I do not get a proper time to cook properly.
Rotaract gives me the opportunity to free my soul and mind
from my daily routine and to make myself occupy in something
that I love to do.

Evolution has thus far brought out the best in all species.
It naturally suppresses the weaker kind and expresses the
best. We come across introverts, extroverts, nerds, geeks and
all sorts of human morphs. But they also possess an inner
leader in them : an inner spirit that could change the world.
Versatility should be nurtured through experience for oneself
to conquer the world. The society we live in is ever-changing
and it only encourages the survival of the fittest. The following
individual, too, is a seeker for a change : a volunteer who
served the community for a cause : a pioneer who set new
goals for the betterment of the youth : a Rotaractor : a friend
to everyone alike and a proud son of Mother Lanka.
Dilhan Sampath Jayatilleke, the Immediate Past District
Rotaract Representative (IPDRR) of the well-known Rotaract
movement is not a stranger to this family. Having his roots in
the youth service since 1997, Rtr. Dilhan had always looked
for a change. Spending nine full years as a District Committee
member out of the sixteen years he has spent with Rotary
family, he was fortunate enough to reach the helm of Interact
and Rotaract as District Interact Representative (2003/2004)
and District Rotaract Representative (2012/2013). Vision
was put into reality, by serving his year under the theme “
Let’s Unite to Make Dreams Real”. Initiating new ventures,
he installed the Rotaract spirit in every Rotaractor. The most
prestigious milestone of the Rotaract year 2012/2013 was the
extension of Rotary District 3220 as Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Taking Rotaract to a new platform, Rtr. Dilhan succeeded in
reviving five clubs and introducing eight newbies to District
3220, thus initiating a “First-time-in-the-history-of-Rotaract”
list. Therefore, the family broadened with clubs emerging
from Point Pedro to Dondra. As a multiethnic nation, he
foresaw the urge to communicate better with the Rotaractors
and encourage a better understanding of its purpose. In
turn he launched the trilingual versions of the Pledge of
Allegiance, Rotaract Invocation, Four Way Test and Goals of
Rotaract. With mere dedication and guidance, he was able to
see many projects popping out at their best, to the extent of
them being honored on a Rotary platform. Also, adding to the
First-time-in-the-history-of-Rotaract list was the ‘Pre-Rotaract
District Assembly Awards Ceremony’ , where many awards
in selected categories were given away and was the final
platform opened for the Rotaract year 2012/2013 prior to the
Rotaract District Assembly. Communication is the most viable
and effective method of maintaining bonds within and across
borders. Since social media is the reigning force behind this
mass communication, he also initiated the District Mailing
group to amalgamate the entire Rotaract Community under
one communication channel. Being a Revival club president
of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort and the Charter club
president of the Rotaract Club of Battaramulla, DRR Dilhan
was a role model to many. Thus he was admired and honored
at the Rotary Assembly for his mere Commitment and Spirit
of Service towards his second family.
Above all these formalities, Rtr. Dilhan is also a fun-loving
character who would be seen cracking a joke or lending
a hand to a friend most of the time. Success must bestow
humility, but rarely do we see leaders possessing a humility
trait. One such rare leader is DRR Dilhan who never raised
demands being the numero uno. Therefore, he was able to
win the hearts of the thousands of Rotaractors and motivated
his followers to work with a “differences in cultures and
creeds should not matter” attitude, as mentioned in the
Rotaract Invocation. Thus, he succeeded in setting a new
track to his successors and walk away as an exceptional role
model who would be remembered and honored as a mentor
and a pioneer in the movement. In his message he states,”
Rotaract is a platform which nurtures leaders. But, it is not
the ground under any circumstances to be in a rat race with
the sole intention of obtaining power and authority. All of us
must keep in mind that Rotaract is a voluntary organization.
Volunteers do not expect anything in return…. All what we
need to have is commitment and dedication while utilizing
our skills.”

Rtr.Sachith Rajakaruna who is 20 years of age is a proud product of Royal College, Colombo. His passion to serve the community
brought him to the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School on the 23rd of May, 2013 and ever since, his performance
and support to the club has been incredible.
Rtr.Sachith is currently an Operational level student of CIMA at Achievers and he wishes to attend a local University in the time to
come under the stream of Engineering or Information Technology.
He is an individual on whom the entire club can rely upon in hard times and whenever his support is needed he will be there and
he will offer any help in order to keep projects and events on track. When considering the projects we, as a club, have completed
so far it is hard to recall an activity that he wasn’t a part of. From planning to execution he’s taken part and done his best.
One of the best events that highlighted his performance was the installation ceremony 2013. Even though he was not pinned a
badge and though he wasn’t inducted as a club official, his interest and commitment to make the event successful was remarkable.
From offering his place for decorations to hunting for sponsorships he played a major role. Rtr.Sachith has a unique ability of taking
things easy and not stressing up but makes sure the entitled task is done as planned. He’s also an active prefect of Royal College
projecting the leadership qualities he possesses and the ability to work as a team.
His attendance in club meetings and events are recorded as 100% and his willingness to attend other clubs’ events is well proven
over the last couple of months through attending as many installations as possible. We, the rotaract club of Achievers Lanka
Business School, are proud to have such a committed and a passionate individual serving the community representing our club.

-Organizers-
“Ifthar” is one of the often heard terms
during the holy month of Ramadan,
during which, according to the teachings
of Islam, God first revealed his word
in the Holy Qur’an to the Prophet
Muhammed. It is the Holy month during
which the Muslims fast during the day
and break fast for the fourth prayer of
the day. We see so many organizations
and well known corporate owners
coming together during this month
to end their day’s fast together with

organizing clubs as this was a good
opportunity for not only fellowship,
the essence of Rotaract, but also for
a good understanding of the Islamic
cultural values during the Holy month of
Ramadan.
The ifthar program started off as a mere
conversation between a few friends
belonging to a various Rotaract Clubs
and it was then that they wondered
why not join hands with a few other
clubs as well in making this event a well
remembered one. What started off as a
mere conversation ended in grand style
on the 3rd of August 2013 at Rotaractor
AmjathYoosuf’sresidenceinKalubowila,
Dehiwala.
The program started off with a sermon
on the values of the Holy month
delivered by none other than our very
own Rotaractor Arqam Azhar, president
of Rotaract Club of Colombo Millenium
City and continued with the breaking
of fast for the Maghrib Adhan or Call
to prayer. Prayers were conducted for
the Magrib prayer and then began the
hustle and bustle for dinner in typical
Muslim style.
With the participation of almost all
the Clubs in the District 3220, the
Ifthar wasn’t just a get together of the

The Carwash for Charity which was
organized to raise funds to help the
“Orphanage for Differently Abled in
Nugegoda” as part of the Community
Services projects of the Rotaract Club
of University of Colombo, Faculty of
Management and Finance, was held on
the 11th of August from 8 am onwards
in front of the BRC grounds.
This was the first real project of the 2nd
year students of this club and nerves
were running high. There was a lot
of initial work to be done in terms of
getting permission from the authorities
which was a cumbersome task and also
in finding water and other relevant
commodities. Venue was already a
hotspot in the area of carwashes and
there was no difficulty in attracting a
crowd as it was well known. Everyone
pooled in and the work was distributed
among the members. All prep work was
done on time without fail. Tickets were
pre- sold and many posters were put out
informing the public to create a buzz.
The company “Laugfs” agreeing to
provide a free car inspection to all the
vehicles who came to the carwash was
an added blessing.

On the 20th of August 2013,the
Rotaractors from the Rotaract Club of
College of Chemical Sciences (RC of CCS)
hosted a scavenger hunt. The event was
chaired by IPP Rtr. Gautham Kumar and
Rtr. Ruwin Yapa. Around 25 Rotaractors
from different clubs took part in the
hunt.
Despite the bad weather we were having
over the past week the “weather gods”
were on our side on the 11th morning
and we were already to go. We were
alarmed at first as it seemed that no one
wanted their vehicles washed! Then the
vehicles started turning in and at one
point we were unable to accommodate
all the vehicles that were lining up.
Vehicles were also flagged down by
the hosts, in addition to those people
who lined up near the stall. The hosts
managed to wash over 40 vehicles which
was more than which was expected.
Everyone worked in unison and it was a
great success.

none other! Each crew was handed a
checklist of the tasks to be completed;
while most of the participants were
aware some tasks would test their
bravado, they may have never expected
to find themselves singing songs on
Public buses or even performing the
‘Harlem Shake’ for a full minute in front
of an unsuspecting crowd. After three
long and arduous hours of scouring
the area and completing the set tasks
we were met with the sight of weary
and worn out Rotaractors, clearly after
a battle. Soon it was deemed that only
one club was going to hum the tune of
parties we were well above the targeted
fund amount by mid-day. These random
acts of kindness, by people passing by
were indeed awe inspiring.
Any act of compassion no matter how
small never goes to waste and we
are indeed grateful to all those who
supported this worthy cause. It is said
that the harder you work the luckier
you get, and all the prior effort we put
in paid dividends in the end. All in all it
was a fun filled day and also a successful
one at that.
Steps are already being taken to channel
these funds to the Orphanage in order
to make their lives a bit better and a bit
more bearable.

organized another Club Service
project going in line with the tradition
introducing new Club Service events
for the District 3220. This was the first
club service project under the year of
the Rotaract Board of President, Rtr.
MadhaviWanigasekara.Theprojectwas
held at Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita
on the 7th of September 2013
commenced at 9:00 am, and concluded
a successful day of fellowship and
fun, with the chilly weather providing
a dramatic atmosphere. The event
was attended by about 150 people
present with organizers, friends and
supporters joining in. The tournament
saw healthy participation from 20
teams comprising five in each team.
The event was structured on a league
basis where each team participated in
2 rounds. The final game of the day was
team Heart Breakers - Life Takers vs.
Team Doomed. Team Heart Breakers -
Life Takers emerged the champions of
the day, taking home the prizewinners
trophy. Thus ended a day filled with fun
and laughter for everyone present.

service project where we spend a day in the month

bring about a smile on their face, to truly celebrate
the spirit that comes with the season. We would
donate several gifts and also contribute financially
to try helping the less fortunate kids in any way that
we can. We are also hoping to collect donations
from the participants and the audience in aid of this
cause.

the project Donate the Gift of Food. The project took place on Sunday(28th of July) and it turned
out to be a huge success in terms of providing the displaced families enough dry rations and
satisfaction.

For the first time in history the Rotaract District wishes to commence an educational scholarship
program for young women.Along side the main scholarship idea we will be hosting several
workshops on the topic of education for these young women as well.
A big thank you to the Rotaract Clubs of Midtown, Millennium City and Cinnamon Gardens for
volunteering to host this District Project. Clubs are encouraged to express their thoughts, concerns
and any ideas they might have to improve this project. The scale of this project truly depends
on the number of clubs that are willing to take up this challenge but with enough support we

with CCC Line, and included a workshop for youth to educate them on Suicide prevention.

Sitting in one of the meetings of the incoming District Committee under incoming DRR Abdul, you could see the new ideas and
concepts swimming around. PETS & SETS was where we would make our mark and show the leaders of Rotaract in District
3220 our intention for the year. Stepping out of the box of tradition, I think the District
Committee of 2013 – 14 with a not-afraid-to-fail attitude did a superb job in introducing
a more practical program giving the participants a taste of what to expect in their tenure
thus perfectly complimenting the organizing clubs theme for the event, “Believe in
Rotaract”. Be prepared for a refreshingly new and exciting Rotaract year ahead.
The Rotaract Clubs of Colombo Uptown, Negombo & IIT were given the responsibility
of hosting this year’s PETS & SETS. We designed a new and innovative (some could say
ambitious) program for this year with the aim of providing the elects with real world
experience and application skills. It was a 2 day overnight residential program in Wijaya
Holiday Resort in Kiriella on the 4th & 5th of May. District Governor Elect was the chief
guest at the opening ceremony where else the Key note speaker was PDG Thariq Thulba.
DRRC Elect and Youth Services Chairperson Elect also graced this occasion. This year PETS
& SETS was attended by 90 Rotaractors. The elects and representatives were grouped
into 8 teams. The event consisted of group training on project preparation; team building
sports activities as well as Rotaract constitution related activities. PDG Nalin also joineed
us on both mornings to explain to us the roles in Rotaract, the constitution, bylaws and
the handbook. Every team was awarded marks on their successes and marks were deducted lack of punctuality. At the end of the
second day we had an awards ceremony where we chose the best group with the highest overall team score. It was an end to a
an eventful weekend and we hoped the elects got something positive out of this program.

Installation Protocol Guide
Tis the season of Installations, and the District PD Team set out to
create and circulate an informative INSTALLATION PROTOCOL GUIDE
to ensure a smooth and professional event. The importance of
following protocol at official events was stressed and Presidents were
asked to pass on the importance of it to the respective installation
project chair and ensure that they follow it to the letter.
TheDistrictAwardscommitteehasbeenkeenlyfollowingtheprotocols
and conduct followed by the organizing clubs and will continue to do
so for the installations to come. Clubs are also strongly encouraged to
contact the District Director in charge of your club as he/she would
have a world of advice and experience to share with you regarding
proper installation procedure.

Rotaract Formal Meeting Guide
The dynamic PD Directors also released the Rotaract Formal Meeting
Guide, which gives guidelines to holding formal club meetings, joint
meetings and DCMs.
As we are encouraging clubs to hold at least one formal meeting
a month, this is beneficial to the many who may be unaware of
procedure and help standardize the protocol of meetings in all clubs.
Professionalism personified - Timeliness
Rotaract has this stigma of not being on time. No one but you can
rectify this. If you announce a starting time please stick to it. Do not
announce a time and then plan to start later thinking people will not
come on time. Take the initiative and become a club known for being
punctual in events, then the attendees will be on time and the best
place to start is your installation.
Get together and discuss with your team on all things that could delay
and come up with back up plans. A well prepared unit tends to be
more punctual than a disorganized one. The number of projects you
do or the magnitude of the projects you do is more appreciated if you
are on time. So whatever you do this year, let’s be punctual and show
to everyone that we, as Rotaractors, are as professional as we claim
to be.

Club as the President under his
theme “Make a Change, Local to
Global”, concerned to do Projects
internationally since other clubs
from Maldives too have joined
hands with our District this year
onwards. The club meets every
Wednesdays of the second and
fourth Week of every Month
at Royal College Skills Center
for meetings. Personalities
interested in joining hands with
us to serve the Community are
always welcome.
Service beyond borders to the Community:
We as Rotaractors serve the Community in four different avenues. Community Service, Professional Development, Club service,
and International Understanding based. Like the Rotarians we youngsters too mainly focus on Community Service projects. These
involve helping and providing essential needs for under privileged kids, elderly people in elderly homes, Schools for the Deaf &
Blind, and aiding other community service organizations. The club also carries out Professional Development Projects such as
helping students from preschool to high school level and to any person or organization including professionals in various roles.
International Understanding bonding between overseas Rotaract Clubs and blending with their Cultures and traditions are the
next level of the Rotaract culture.
The existence of Rotaract is to serve the community. In order to do so, the club has to find a way to finance its projects through the
help of its members. Therefore the club carries out various activities such as trips and day outs for member motivations and plus

of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort : Vision into Reality
Camaraderie is a soothing sight to one’s eyes. Swarms of bees heading for honey, flocks of birds hunting for their diets are results of natural camaraderie. It is always pleasant to see a group, carrying an essence of fellowship to spread their wings as one. Be it a drama
crew, a band or a basketball team, although victory is common to all, it takes a huge amount of effort to achieve it. Rotaract is one big family, composed of the budding youth, oozing with talents. FORTARACT is yet another mini-family that has elaborated camaraderie
in its broadest terms.
Marking its 24th year of existence in the Rotaract movement, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort, stepped onto yet another expedition, to envision their dreams to serve justice to the cause. Revived in 2007/2008, by its first individual to take office as the District Rotaract
Representative 2012/2013, Rtr. PP Dr. Dilhan Sampath Jayatilleke, the club has experienced a rapid growth over the past 6 years. It was the much awaited event on the FORTARACT calendar and of course the most special day for the Incoming FORTARACTORS. Held on
the 11th of August, at the Hotel School Auditorium, the 24th Installation Ceremony of the FORTARACTORS was an event of high caliber with many prominent personalities present to grace the occasion. The chief guest for the event was IPDG Rtn. PHF Dharshan John, the
Guest of Honor/ Keynote Speaker for the evening Honorable MP Rtn. PHF Dr. Harsha De Silva and added to the list was President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort 2013/2014 Rtn. Vibhu Wickramasinghe, IPP Rotary Club of Colombo Fort 2012/2013 and Youth Service
Directress 2013/2014 Rtn. Chami De Silva, DRCC 2013/2014 Rtn. Marshad Barry and Youth Services Chairman 2013/2014 Rtn PP Crishantha Herath. The event was also made more colorful by the presence of Past DRRs namely Rtn. Muttiah Prabakaran, Rtn. Sanjeewa
Fernando , DRR 2013/2014 Rtr. PP Abdul Wahid, IPDRR Rtr. PP Dr. Dilhan S. Jayatilleke, DRRE 2013/2014 Rtr. PP Hazeem Osman and many other distinguished individuals. The outgoing president for the evening Rtr. Kushil Thilakasiri was looked up to as a man with an
exceptional administration strategy. His ‘never-say-no’ attitude encouraged him to not only chair 54 projects but win more than 50 awards at the Rotaract District Assembly. Handing in duties to the Incoming President Rtr. Thaha Adamjee is a personality who needs no
introduction. Having been a prominent individual with a history that dates back to his Interact days at Zahira College, everyone has hopes without doubt that he will do wonders and keep the FORTARACT flag hoisted at all events. With Julius Michelle taking stage to
break the ice, he took the audience on a toe-tapping beat -box ride and added more glamor to the event.
It was the foreseen vision of the past presidents of this club that brought it to where it stands today. With mere dedication the FORTARACTORS battled their way through storms and rejoiced the happy moments equally with the same spirit. Thus they saw the positive
outcomes of such fellowship and camaraderie. The feeling of mutual trust and friendship keeps one secure in the eyes of their fellow comrades and there’s a hype to serve more for the movement. The Proud president pledged that he would serve justice and be
responsible in taking the club standards to greater heights. The FORTARACTORS in turn, wish him all the success for yet another memorable journey together.

Abdul Wahid himself, “There is never a dull moment at an Uptown
installation”.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown celebrated its 10th installation
ceremony on the 25th of August 2012 inducting Rtr. Abdul Qadir as
the President of the year 2013/2014. At an installation full of laughs,
emphatic speeches and embarrassing videos, Rtr. President Abdul
Qadir appointed an energetic and highly enthusiastic board awaiting
the memories and trials the new Rotaract year promises to bring.
Revivedin2010,RCCUboastsadiversememberbasewhoseprofessions
range from that of lawyers and accountants to mathematicians and
engineers. RCCU has hosted and continues a host several projects every
year that include fund raisers and donations to the needy, painting of
and teaching at orphanages, basketball tournaments and of course its
annual landmark project Run For Their Lives. Colombo Uptown being
recognized for its dedication towards the Rotaract Movement was
awarded 21 awards at the Rotaract District Assembly held in June.
For this new Rotaract year, Colombo Uptown promises to bring new,
iconic events and memories we hope will last a lifetime. As always,
Colombo Uptown will strive to ensure there is never a dull moment at
anything the club is involved in.
The deco, the food, the speakers, the entertainment, the
funds, the planning, the thinking, the blue! The Installation!
It was one of many anticipated events, where every fleeting
breath was out with concern about A-Z to beyond, of the
event. It needed to be perfect. It was finally here. From the
moment we were back from decorations, we stationed
ourselves backstage whispering to each other to make sure
all was good.
Gail Devers, a retired three time Olympic champion very
rightly said -“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve
anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard
work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things
are possible for those who believe.” Which is exactly what we
as a team strived to accomplish through this event. To set a
benchmark and a kick start for a stunning year ahead.
‘Believe. Achieve. Inspire.’ the theme for this year could not
be more suited. The installation was not only for the induction
of the new president and his board of directors, but a rostrum
for the theme for this year to grace the audience. There
were many aspects of the installation that transformed the
event from yet another social gathering and induction, to a
platform for ideas, objectives and plans and purposes to take
shape as we embark on a quest, an exciting venture.
The installation was held on Sunday, the 4th of August, nestled
at the Royal College Union Skills Center at 4.00 p.m. The place
was shimmering in Gradiose blue with the ladies too adding to
the colour in blues sarees and the men in Blue ties.
Our chief guest was Rtn. PHF Mohamed Cassim Farook, the
President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid-town. It was
indeed a pleasure to have him grace the occasion with his
presence. The guest of honour for the evening was Rtn. PP.
Marshad Barry, the District Rotaract Commitee Chairman.
Also, present at the event, our immediate past president Rtr.
Aliasger Shabbir needs no introduction as his work preceded
him. A record winning of 13 awards at the 23rd Rotaract
District Assembly and due to the impeccable standard at
which he handed over the club for this year with greater
potential and greater expectations as his time as president
rose and turned a new leaf in the life of our club. He called
the installation to order and the rest of the programme fell
into place and ran as smooth as clock work, from the welcome
speech to the vote of thanks.
We were all given the privilege to be a part of TNL onstage winner 2009, Sam’s stellar performance. There was amazing food
served, many commended the brownies as the highlight of the event. Arrangements were made to break fast for Muslims and
‘Maghrib’ Prayers were conducted headed by Rtr. Shahid Hussain afterwards.
We made sure we gave the best and most deserving farewell to the immediate past president who was truly an inspiration to all.
He was given heartfelt memorabilia, a true and sincere token of appreciation and love which was an emotional moment. Every
member becomes family and it was a bitter sweet moment to let go but, we all understand it’s inevitable, but we’re glad that it
was all done in style!
Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” And I’m proud to say, that at that moment, at the installation,
yes, we were definitely half way there. The remainder of the destination to come is a ride we await!

Recognising and Celebrating Service
at the 23rd Rotaract District Assembly - “Love Not Hate”
August 10th 2013 marked the installation of a new Board and a new
president for the Rotaract Club of Colombo. In yet another display of talent
and elegance, the first and oldest Rotaract Club in the movement installed
Shanaka Indrajith as the 44th president of the Club.
The fun-filled evening celebrated the wonderful year completed by IPP
Hussain Akbarally in the past year under the theme of “Just Do Good’, and
the achievement of completing 70 projects which earned over 26 awards at
the 23rd Rotaract District Assembly.
The chief guest for the event, CEO of Anything.lk Mr. Reeza Zarook had the
crowd in rapt attention as he presented his thoughts on leadership and what
it takes to succeed. The evening’s entertainment saw club member Talya
Fernando display her talents on the flute as she performed Moon River
for the audience. This was followed by an enthralling performance by Jazz
performer Gyles Dharmaratne, ably supported by beatboxer Julius in keeping
with the theme of Jazz for the event.
Unveiling the year’s theme of ‘Unity through service’, the funfiilled evening
had a surprised audience winning gift vouchers from The T lounge and
Trekurious, and a trivia quiz winner taking home a holiday voucher for a
luxurious night’s stay.
The 23rd Rotaract District Assembly was held on the 29th of June 2013 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute under
the patronage and participation of a host of distinguished guests and over 350 Rotaractors representing 50 Rotaract
Clubs from all corners of the island.
The event marks the conclusion of one Rotaract year and the commencement of a new year and a new Board for
the Rotaract Fraternity. This year’s event was organised by the Rotaract Clubs of Cinnamon Gardens, University
of Colombo – Faculty of Arts and Colombo Midtown. The programme consisted of the installation of the Rotaract
District Committee for the Rotaract year 2013/2014 under the District Rotaract Representative Elect Rtr. Past
President Abdul Wahid Sathar. The central attraction of the event was the Awards Ceremony conducted under the
patronage of District Rotaract Representative for 2012/2013 Rtr. Past President Dilhan Jayathilake. All Rotaract
Clubs and Rotaractors were recognised and honoured for their accomplishments, dedication and exemplary service
projects during the past Rotaract year.
Members of University and Community-based Rotaract Clubs, sponsoring Rotary Clubs and other key dignitaries in
the Rotary and Rotaract movement including the District Governor Elect for 2013/2014, Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian
Past President Imran Hassen and Immediate Past District Governor Rotarian Past President Gehan Siribadanna
graced the occasion. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleke, former Sri Lankan Permanent Representative to the United Nations was
the Keynote speaker at the first session.
It is commendable that the organising committee of the Assembly branded the event with the campaign “I Pledge to
Love not Hate” and adopted the theme “Love not Hate”. The campaign aims to spearhead an initiative to highlight
the importance of reconciliation and commitment to lasting peace in Sri Lanka.
