2. Veteran Tapes
• Audio interviews and transcriptions of interviews
are linked to parts of publications.
• Pointing towards Fragments of interviews
• Interdisciplinary (psychologists, historians,
linguists, sociologists)
• Researchers participate and see the added value
but when the funding stops there is no other
reward for them to keep doing what they’re doing.
• Will result in multiple Enhanced Publications one
of which is an Enhanced e-book.

3. Proefschriften Plus (Enhanced Theses)
• Was a follow up on a Knowledge Exchange project
about Enhanced E-theses.
• Produced 25 Enhanced E-Theses as a showcase
• Had to built their own solution for the repository
(Dspace 1.5 isn’t ready for EP’s)
• Investigated the possibility of this being a ‘Library
Service’ for Dissertations at the UU
• Broad scope of disciplines; ran into the issue of the
lacking of ontology's

4. ESCAPE (Enhanced Scientific Communication by
Aggregated Publication Environments)
• Created the tools for supporting the creation,
storage and dissemination of Enhanced
Publications
- Resource map Repository
- Resource Map Editor
• Delivered Use cases from 3 different disciplines
• Focus on the Visual relationships between objects

5. DatapluS
• Enhance Publications with datasets and syntax in
two Subject repositories NKO (National Voters
Survey) and EVS (European Values Studies)
• Built a Enhanced Publication Tool (EP Editor) with
which researchers could Enhance their own
Publications
• Publications in Repository Linked with Data from
Data archives and syntax
• Extra work for researchers…. Metadata capture
rather during research than retrospectively

Next Steps
• Too much effort for researchers for this to become
common practice
-> Project on Updating the tools on the basis of user
experiences
• Research data often not sufficiently described or not
persistently stored
-> Promoting the availability and curation of research data
(a.o. dutch data forum)
• Not entirely clear what the workflow should be
-> Project on the workflow of creating an enhanced
journal publication in Open Journal System
