3. Sir Francis Drake was born in 1540 Devon, England, the oldest of eleven sons. He was the son of Edmund Drake who was a farmer. Drake was a fierce warrior because at that time his country (England) was at war with Spain. He helped defend England from the Spanish Armada in 1588. His voyage started in 1577 and lasted for 3 years. He was told by Queen Elizabeth I to travel around the world. Unfortunately he died in 1596 of a tropical fever near the coast of Panama. 5. CARING: Sir Francis Drake was caring and uncaring at the same time. He was caring towards his countrymen because he went to war for England. Although Sir Francis Drake was caring for his country, he wasn’t caring for the Spanish because he killed a lot of Spanish in war. KNOWLEDGEABLE: Sir Francis Drake was knowledgeable because he gathered information and learned many things by doing that and he used this information in real life. Information about Sir Francis Drake’s Ship (The Golden Hind/Pelican) The Golden Hind was Sir Francis Drake’s most significant ship because it carried most of the journey’s treasure and was the ship that he sailed on. The Golden Hind carried an amazing 26 tons of silver and at least 80 pounds of gold. The Golden Hind was actually the Pelican but Drake changed it’s name.

11. More Information about Sir Francis Drake Sir Francis Drake is considered significant because he was an admiral in war and the second person to travel around the world. Sir Francis Drake was looking for both adventure and gold in his journey around the world. When he returned back to England, the English people were happy because he came back with valuable goods and information. He has changed the way people live today by changing the maps now. He impacted the Spanians by stealing their treasures and he killed them.
