2. David Pflieger, a pilot, attorney, and airline executive
with more than 25 years of experience, has departed
his position as managing director and CEO of
Air Pacific, Fiji’s national air carrier. As the incoming
president and CEO of Florida-based Silver Airways
Corp., he leaves Air Pacific a legacy of increased
revenue and expansion that marked his tenure. In
March 2013, Air Pacific announced its search for a
successor to keep the momentum going. Among other
candidates, the company at that time was looking at
several current employees promoted or hired by the
acclaimed outgoing CEO.
3. David Pflieger led Air Pacific’s financial turnaround
from more than $50 million in losses to nearly $400
million in yearly revenue. Additionally, he spearheaded
the company’s acquisition of several new Airbus A330
planes specifically designed and built to represent the
needs and aspirations of the people of Fiji. The new
aircraft are expected to increase the country’s capacity
to develop its tourist industry and to deliver goods and
services to its population. Air Pacific also undertook a
recent rebranding after approximately six decades in
operation. In June 2013, it will begin working under the
name of Fiji Airways.
