Web of Knowledge
The Science Citation Index database covers articles, reviews, reports and other items
from over 5,300 of the most heavily cited journals in science, technology and
medicine. The database is part of the ISI Web of Knowledge service, covers the
period from 1945 to present, and is updated weekly.
Web of Knowledge Search Alerts will email you when new articles match your
search terms.
1. Connect to ISI Web of Knowledge.
2. Click on Connect to the ISI Web of Knowledge Service, and then click on the
Web of Science tab.
3. To create alerts you must first register with the service and select a
password. To do this, click on Register. To set up alerts in future, you must
sign in using your email address and password, by clicking on Sign In.
4. Run the search you need.
5. On the Search Results Summary page, click on Search History.
6. On the Search History page, click on Save History/Create Alert.
7. Enter a History Name, tick the Send Me E-mail Alerts box and select the
required format and frequency.
8. Click SAVE and then DONE.
Web of Knowledge Search Alerts as RSS feeds
1. After clicking on SAVE (see step 8 above), a confirmation message is
displayed, together with an RSS Feed: XML button.
2. Click on the XML button. Copy the URL which appears in your browser's
address box and paste it into your RSS reader.
Web of Knowledge Citation Alerts will email you when a particular article is cited by
another author.
1. Connect to ISI Web of Knowledge.
2. Click on Connect to the ISI Web of Knowledge Service, and then click on the
Web of Science tab.

password. To do this, click on Register. To set up alerts in future, you must
sign in using your email address and password, by clicking on Sign In.
4. Search for, and view, the article of interest.
5. Click on Create Citation Alert.
6. A Citation Alerts Confirmation page will appear.
7. Click on Done.
Web of Knowledge Citation Alerts as RSS feeds
1. After clicking on Create Citation Alert (see step 5 above), click on the RSS
Feed (XML) button.
2. Copy the URL in your browser's address box and paste it into your RSS reader.
Scopus
The Scopus database covers articles from more than 14,000 journals in the physical,
health, life and social sciences. It covers the period from 1966 to present, and is
updated daily.
Scopus Search Alerts will email you when new articles match your search terms.
1. Connect to Scopus.
2. To create alerts you must first register with the service and select a username
and password. To do this, click on Register. To set up alerts in future, you
must login with your username and password, by clicking on Login.
3. Run the required search and on the results page click on Save as Alert. (Note
that it is also possible to set up a search alert from Search History, the My
Alerts page and Saved Searches).
4. On the Save a Search Alert page enter a name for the alert, the e-mail
address to which the alert should be sent and select the required frequency.
Note that selecting Inactive will prevent e-mails being sent without deleting
your alert.
5. From the E-mail Format section, select the format for your search alert.
6. Click on Submit to save the search alert.
7. When you submit a search alert, a confirmation statement will be shown that
allows you to return to the page where you had originally clicked the Save as
Alert link.
Scopus Search Alerts as RSS feeds
1. After running the required search (see step 3 above), click on the RSS button
on the results page.
2. On the Subscribe to RSS Feed for Scopus Search page, name your RSS feed
and click on Continue.
3. Copy the highlighted URL and paste it into your RSS reader.
4. Follow any other instructions given by your RSS reader to create the feed.
3. When you subscribe to a Scopus RSS feed, you will get the top 20 search results for
your search delivered every day to your RSS reader.
Scopus Document Citation Alerts will email you when a particular article is cited by

must login with your username and password, by clicking on Login.
3. Run the required search and then click on the Abstracts + Refs tab of the
article of interest. Click on E-mail Alert on the document display page.
4. On the Add a Document Citation Alert page, enter a name for the alert, the e-
mail address to which the alert should be sent and select the required
frequency. Note that selecting Inactive will prevent e-mails being sent
without deleting your alert.
5. From the E-mail Format section, select the format for your search alert.
6. Click on Submit to save the Document Citation Alert.
Scopus Document Citation Alerts as RSS feeds
