Re: Garbage Collection
As a taxpayer in the city of Hamilton I can say that I have no problem with how our
garbage is collected nor do I mind that these folks are able to finish their day a little bit
earlier.
Garbage collection like many of our manufacturing jobs has targets that need to be met.
These targets are set out by management and are based on what it takes for the business
to make or save money.
These targets are much different than in the service or retail sector where sales are the
targets.
The worker in almost every case follow what is set out; this is how many operations
work. If they don’t then they are disciplined for not doing their job.
It’s that simple.
Unfortunately whenever an undertaking like the Spectator review takes place it has a one
sided tilt that blames the worker.
Raise the issue if you find something, but investigating the true nature of any story needs
to have the truth behind it before it is made public.
The questions of management and Council should have been asked prior to any reporting
to capture the whole story, once that is done by all means report it.
As it is the Hamilton Spectator has done a disservice to the very good people who deliver
our services once again.
This is not reporting, this is nothing but driving a wedge between our city workers and
taxpayers.
I am embarrassed for you.
