3. Prepare for moving
• Notify change of address to banks/post offices
• Settle any outstanding bills for things like
newspapers and deliveries
• Return any items you have borrowed like
books/magazines
• Make arrangements if your children are going
to be looked after elsewhere on the day of the
move.

• Inform neighbours about the removal van
coming so they can make any alternative
arrangements for parking their vehicle
• Fill a box with essential items in it for the day
of the move

• Empty and defrost your refrigerator
• Empty kitchen cupboards and throw out any
food that you don’t intend taking with you
• Collect any valuables/important documents
together into one safe container which should
travel with you and not in the removal van

phone as you could use more on the day of the
move

are renting
• Obtain written quotes from several house
removal companies
• If you're not using professional removers, ask
friends/relatives to help
• Start getting rid of possessions you no longer
need.
8. Two weeks before moving
• Start packing non-essential items such as
books
• Notify your milkman and newspaper agent that
you'll be moving and give them a date you
want the service to stop
9. • If you have children or pets, arrange for
someone to look after them during the move.
Pets removal are offered by some companies.
• Finalise arrangements with your removal
company. If you have inconvenience on week
days/losing work tell them to arrange moving
on weekends
10. • Considering the risks involved in transit or
storage it is advisable to take an insurance
policy for your valuable personal goods.
