2. Young people can be sexualised in
print media.
• As you can see here, we have a
celebrity posing sexual on front of a
magazine to attract people to buy it.
This can attract men and women,
engaging them to want to see what's
inside.
• This portrays feminine beauty as
cheap. Women are sexualised
creating the idea that they have no
respect for themselves. Representing
them as sex objects.
3. Young teenagers can be classed as
rebellious and unapproachable thorough
print media.
•
•
Justin Bieber is 19 years old, being
portrayed as a pot head, who takes
drugs. Creating a negative representation
on young teens. This creates the idea
that the media are controlling us and our
opinions through the use of print media,
cover lines, and headlines. They have
the opportunity to tell us what we want to
hear, however sometimes it can be
twisted, which creates negative
representations of adult teens in the
media.
I feel representations depends on what
'product' or image that a particular aspect
of media that their trying to promote and
tell us as a reader/audience.
4. STASTICS
• Stereotyping has been identified by a number of studies in the UK.
The 2004 survey conducted by MORI for Young People Now
magazine demonstrated that young people were increasingly
represented as ‘problems’. Of all the stories about them in UK
national and local papers during one week in 2004, 71% were
negative, 14% positive and only 15% neutral. In 48% of the stories
about crime and violence, young people were depicted as the
perpetrators. A total of 70% had boys as the offender and only 32%
had boys as the victim. Girls were the offenders in only 10% of the
stories and the victim in 91%. Contrary to the impression given by
media coverage, official crime statistics show that boys are more
likely to be victims of violent crime than girls.
7. • As you can see in all eight of these images they all have a dull
expression on their face to represent the Indi fashion. The use of
colours used are ranged from black and white to more of a pastel
edge, creating there Indi genre, their clothes and accessories are
different from every day fashion. Their use of big rainbow glasses,
and checked jackets create a sub music genre of Indi.
9. • In comparison to Indi, we still have the moody face expressions engaging the
audience into the front cover of the magazine. However in this genre of music
we have more cover lines, and extravigant headlines in order to draw the
reader/audience in. There style is very different in comparison to other music
genres. There use of individuality is portrayed, with the different hair colour and
styles which make you look part of the rock/punk genre. The bold colours also
connote the punk genre idea, creating a rebellious feel to the magazine, which
engages the audience to want to read into it.
11. • Pop music magazines are full of bright happy colours
engaging the audience to look at the magazine. Pop
magazines are not as serious based in comparison to
punk/rock and Indi. They have more of a light feel to
them. The use of big friendly cover lines and friendly
artists on the front create less of an edge. It created
more of a friendly genre for the audience.
