FWBL,
commercial banks, Al-Akhuwat
Foundation and Islamabad Chamber
of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) are
offering small loans to people to
alleviate poverty and economic
growth.
3. Livelihood Programs
Local Governments
Government
of
Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, UNIDO and USAID are
alleviating
poverty
through
livelihood programs. Livelihood
Support & Promotion of Small
Community Infrastructure Project
(LACIP) is co-financed by the Federal
Republic of Germany through KfW.
National Reconstruction Bureau
(NRB), Government of Sindh and
Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
believe that poverty can be
eradicated with effective local
governments. Elections will be held
in 2013.
4. Philanthropy
Poverty Emergency
Pakistan Baitul Maal (PBM) and
Benazir Income Support Program
(BISP) are also taking part in poverty
eradication. Every month sustenance
allowance is given to needy families
throughout the country.
Foregoing strategies-mix has not yet
bring any substantial change in lives
of people. Charity is ineffective mean
to poverty reduction but government
rely on it for political purposes.
Government of Pakistan under
leadership of Mian Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif must declare Poverty
Emergency to chalk out a resultoriented strategy for sustainable
economic development.
