This document discusses multicultural issues in student affairs. It explores subtle forms of non-physical aggression between different groups, such as demeaning implications and microaggressions, tracing examples as far back as European settlers' treatment of Native Americans. The document also references theories on socialization, racial identity, and sexual orientation identity and how opinions on multicultural issues can be informed by these. Examples are given of verbal and non-verbal microaggressions, and it concludes by recommending education, awareness, taking a stand, and not promoting the status quo.
