10-15 cards that look like this
Paraphrasing is the next step Paraphrase – taking someone else’s material and putting it into your own words, but still crediting the original source. What happens if we don’t give credit to the source?
plagiarism the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. CONSEQUENCES Covered on pages 11-12 of your student handbook. "Plagiarism | Define Plagiarism at Dictionary.com." Dictionary.com | Find the Meanings and Definitions of Words at Dictionary.com. Tips for paraphrasing Read passage carefully and more than once. Out loud can be helpful too. Without looking at the passage, write down what you think it said. Check to make sure you didn’t repeat unique or key terms. Switch order of ideas. Paraphrase should be roughly the same length as the original text.
practice Effect on Teens Quote: “She uses the site to keep up with school and social activities, both on computers and through her phone. Paraphrase: Sweeney uses her cell phone and computer to check Facebook to stay up-to-date with school. After ankle surgery, when she was stuck at home she talked to friends and teachers through Facebook to get help (Shalash). Citation: Shalash, Samieh. "Staying Plugged 24/7 Is Part of High School Experience." McClatchy - Tribune Business News. 13 Dec 2010: n.p. SIRS Researcher. Web. 28 Feb 2011.
