5. Tips for paraphrasing Read passage carefully and more than once. Out loud can be helpful too. Without looking at the passage, write down what you think it said. Check to make sure you didn’t repeat unique or key terms. Switch order of ideas. Paraphrase should be roughly the same length as the original text.
