3. Relevance of Topic If you didn’t already know, healthcare is one of the most controversial issues going on in America today. There is a common debate going on daily about what to do with the American Healthcare system. There is no doubt about it that better healthcare is a necessity and something needs to be done to improve the situation. Everyone needs health care. 53. Facts vs. Myths Myth: The U.S. has the best health care system in the world. Fact: The U.S. has among the worst health statistics of all rich nations. The U.S. ranks near the bottom of list of international comparisons. Part of the problem is that there is more profit in a cure than in the prevention of an illness. Another part of the problem is that America has the highest level of poverty and income inequality among all rich nations. Therefore, poverty affects a person’s health much more than the other problems. The U.S. does not have the best health care system in the world. It has the best emergency care system in the world http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-healthcare.htm
54. What can be done? 65. Advantages Affordable? How? Cutting down premium costs for tens of millions of families and small business owners who are priced out of coverage today (middle class). Helps 32 million Americans afford health care who do not get it today. Makes coverage more affordable for many more people Under the plan, 95% of Americans will be insured.
66. Advantages cont. The new healthcare bill sets up a new competitive health insurance market giving millions of Americans the same choices of insurance that members of Congress will have. http://files.motherinchief.com/uploaded_images/choices-760701.jpg

A lot of people do not know what health care really is. Even though this topic is in the media almost everyday, many people are blind to the fact that healthcare applies to a person’s everyday life in order to live a healthy life. In every environment it is important to be healthy. For example, in the work place, it is important to be healthy enough to show up for work everyday. If a person were to get sick today or tomorrow and they have no health insurance, it may be impossible for that individual to show up to work the next day.
This slide gives a general understanding on who is eligible for healthcare. Seeing as though people can not be denied healthcare, everyone is eligible and can receive treatment. This slide is informal to others because if you didn’t know if you could be covered, after reviewing this slide you will come to recognition that you can.
This slide reflects on the general information about what healthcare is. This slide explains the topic of healthcare more in dept and gives me a foundation to talk about the upcoming slides about the different healthcare plans and types. Generally group insurance is cheaper but also a family plan is around the same price. A family plan is basically the same thing as group insurance in that if one member is insured, then their immediate family within that household can also use their coverage.
This slide talks about one of the five plans and organizations. The amount you pay to visit the doctor solely depends on who are insured by. Filling out forms is possible but not always considered. All medical expenses and documentation is up to you.
Managed care coverage is another type of plan. This specific plan is similar to the others. In this slide I am comparing MCC with the HMO, PPO, and POS coverage. MMC is similar because the coverage recommends certain providers that are up to your standard and what you can afford. If you were to receive treatment from any other network not covered by Managed care, then this coverage will not cover the expenses.
POS plans has the same standards as the previous slide (MCC). This plan looks out for the best interest of the individual. They steer the individual towards a lower medical cost rather than a more expensive facility. The physician an individual would want to see has to be chosen from within the network that POS plans cover. Unlike the Indemnity, in this plan paperwork and medical records and service fees are completed for you.
HMO is very common in the US. Each moth you will receive a bill that will then have to be paid. The individuals choose which physician they would like to see. After that, that physician is then responsible for everything. A co-payment is usually required before you see the doctor. Any care received outside of the network is not covered. This basically means that if a person were to go to a hospital which does not take HMO, they can still be seen but, they have to pay the full amount of that visit and any procedure that took place that day.
Everyone excepts PPO’s. This is generally the best type of organization.
Many people cannot afford health insurance which is why so many are left uncovered. Certain companies only offer certain types of insurance that cover different coverage's. For example, some only cover dental, vision, specialty care ect…. A lot of companies don’t pick up deductibles, which means the employer has to pay but so much into the insurance. The major problem is that the cost for coverage Is crucial. The number of workers offered health insurance by their employers has increased in the last decade. The portion of workers who accept certain offers has declined. The major reason for this is the cost.
This chart shows a visual on why so many people were not covered. The main reason as you can see is the cost. Also, note that some people feel as though they don’t need health insurance.
Shows again the top four reasons on why many people in the United States went with out health care insurance. Note the top reason being the cost is too high.
This quote explains what a women went through because she did not have health insurance. This goes to show how important it is that an individual be covered in all aspects. Because she is not covered, her children cannot get the care they would need if they were to get very sick, which means, as a mother and the primary care giver for her family she wouldn’t be full filling her major deeds without paying a fortune,
Is there still hope for people who have lost their job to still have healthcare coverage in the near future?
This slide explains what would happen if a person were to lose their job. The loss of jobs doesn’t stop you from getting health insurance, but it makes it much more difficult when it comes to how to pay for your treatments.
Breaks down exactly what COBRA is and what each letter stands for.
These scenarios show exactly how important and expensive it is to have health insurance, cost is again why many people went with out coverage.
These are the top 4 private health insurers in the United States
The money that funds this type of healthcare insurance use federal money from the bill to set up their own single-payer plans.
Sal Z. Valiani, operated four dry-cleaning shops, said that he was offered health insurance long ago and even paid half of the cost. But, he said, employees repeatedly asked him not to deduct their share of the premiums from their wages. Paying large sums of money for health insurance is a financial burden on an individual.
Nearly 9 million children are uninsured and millions more are underinsured because of rising medical costs.
I believe that this shows how controversial the top of health care is in the United States today. Many people have their own personal opinions on it therefore, there is a lot of speculation on how good our health care system is as Americans living in the United States.
Three things that can be done to better the Health care system on your own.
Take notice to the fact that only 40percent of the united states is covered by health insurance. This means that 60 percent is NOT covered. This is a growing problem in America today. Compared to other countries, we are in the bottom ranks.
Life expectancy plays a large roll in the health care of a country. Obviously, better care means a person has the potential to live longer than your average third-world countries. Take notice that compared to Japan, the U.S.’s life expectancy is more than three times lower. Obviously, this says a lot about out care here.
This slide will get the audience thinking more in dept about the way our healthcare system is today. The three countries (China, Japan, and France) are top ranked when it comes to Health care. These countries health care systems are superior to ours. The answer is obvious here. Most people would veer towards the country that has the highest life expectancy when you review the statistics.
Compared to Canada, more people believe that the U.S. needs a change for the better. These statistics shows exactly what the United States as a whole needs. A change.
Gives a suggestion on what needs to be the first step to a better health care issue. The government needs to reduce poverty first and for most. They need to put the unemployed to work and create more jobs.
The color of an individuals skin or ethnic background justifies the treatment in health care that you receive. Sounds crazy doesn’t it? But very true. Many people are blind to the fact that racism is still a major force amongst Americans today.
Explains what the future is going to bring in the field of healthcare. The demand for doctors are rising in the US. Even though health care is taking a plung in America today, the future in the health care field is looking good.
