1. Invasive Species Action Challenge
Our family agrees to take the following steps to combat invasive species in California:
1. We will not release unwanted pets into the wild, parks or other areas
2. We will not dump pond and aquarium animals or plants into wild areas, storm drains, lakes or rivers
3. We will choose garden plants that are not invasive and remove those that are. We will not plant the
following which are particular problems in the South Bay:
Pampas grass/Jubata grass
Mexican Feather Grass
Fountain Grass/Pennesetum
Hottentot fig or iceplant
Passion Vine
English/Algerian Ivy
Japanese/Asian Honeysuckle
Scotch Broom
Castor Bean Plant
Canary Island date palm
Mexican fan palm
Acacia trees
Brazilian/Peruvian/’California’ Pepper trees
Bluegum Eucalyptus
Russian Olive
Tree of Heaven
4. We will take care to not spread invasive seeds, plants or insects on our boots, tools, car tires, boats or
in firewood or food.
5. We will buy certified weed free hay, feed, seed, mulch and soil
6. We will report suspected invasive species to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife:
