Not only in music criticism, but also in general discourses on the value of popular music, authenticity remains a central term. The aim of this paper is to show how the bands Pearl Jam and Radiohead differently use certain media in order to communicate similar concepts and intentions within their aesthetic and ideological frameworks. It will examine the bands differences approaches on constructing authenticity by analyzing important aspects of the bandsโ image constructions, such as the attitude towards the music album as a product, live performance, music videos and instrumentation.
