What Is Citrix?
USC Macintosh Lab Computers and Laptops allow for use of specific Windows-based
applications though the use of a system called Citrix. Users will be able to login to Citrix and run
a list of Windows Software applications virtually while working on any Macintosh computer.
Logging In and Opening Applications:
There are two ways you can log into Citrix: through the application you want to run, or via the
web.
Web Login:
1. Click on the icon in the toolbar on the bottom of the Desktop to launch the web login
screen:
2. Type your USC User Name and
Password and click the Log On button below.
You will be taken directly after logging in to the Citrix Applications folder, and then will be able to
select the specific application you wish to run.

Application-Specific Login:
1. To login to Citrix though the application you wish to specifically run, first select the
Applications Icon located in the taskbar on the bottom of the screen of the Desktop.
Then, select the folder that contains the program that you wish to run. Applications that run via
Citrix will be located in folders that are specified as Windows:
2. A prompt will appear, asking you to login to Citrix. You MUST login using the following format:
username@ISD.USC.EDU
Please note that this method is Case-Sensitive. Use the correct format for your user name. The
remainder of the login information must be in all caps however.
3. Enter your password and click the OK button below.
4. You will be logged in and the application you wish to run will automatically launch.
NOTE: You will have to login again whenever you close an application. If you wish to run
multiple applications using Citrix, you will need to check the box for “Remember this password

in my keychain” option before clicking the OK button. Otherwise, you will need to login each
time you wish to use another Windows-based application.
You do not have to login more than once when logging in via the Web.
Application that run using Citrix WILL NOT appear as an application icon in the Apple taskbar
on the bottom of the Desktop screen. Instead, a specific Citrix Icon will appear in the taskbar:
If you are running more than one application using Citrix, you can find the application by locating
the Citrix Icon and right clicking on it. When you do so, a sub-menu will appear, listing all the
Windows-based application that you are currently running:
Also, all documents that are running using Citrix will appear in the taskbar with Citrix Icons to
denote them:

Opening or Saving a File Using the Desktop:

Windows-based files cannot be opened from the desktop by double-clicking on their icons.
These files must be opened through the program in which they were created. It is not
recommended to open or save documents from anywhere but the desktop.
First, open the Windows-based program. Then, to open a file, from the top menu bar select File-
>Open. You will see the following screen:
1.Under the Computer icon, choose Local Disk (C:) and open the Desktop folder.
2.Click on the file you want to open from the Desktop folder and click the Open button.
3. To save a file to the desktop, select File->Save from the top menu bar. Select the
Computer icon on the left of the screen.
4. Select Local Disk (C:) and then select the Desktop folder.

5. Click the Save button.
Saving or Opening a File with a Flash Drive:
1. Before opening the program, insert the flash drive into the Mac and wait for the icon to
appear on the desktop.
2. Open the program following the above directions.
3. To access files from the flash drive, click File->Open from the top menu bar. Under the
Computer icon on the left of the screen, select the Floppy Disk (A:) drive. Click the Open
button at the bottom of the screen.
4. When you are ready to save the file, go to the Computer icon and choose Floppy Disk
(A:) to access your flash drive. Save the document.
Printing:
Print while using a Citrix Windows-based application is the same method when printing from any
non-Windows-based application.
1. Go to the menu bar for the application and select the File option.
2. Scroll down and then select Print.
3. You may print using Self-Serve Black & White, or Self-Serve Color printing. Be sure to
have you USC ID to release the print item at the printing station.
