School Enrichment Program for middle and high school students has been in existence for about 10 years. SEP for grades 6-12 is the same as regular cadet squadrons except that the meetings are held either during school or as an after-school program. SEP is present in about 70 schools nationwide w/2,500 children taking part. Improved attendance, attitude and achievement are seen as the direct results of this program. This year, CAP began a test SEP program: K - 5 program; in 20 schools nationwide; 300 teachers and 7,000 students are participating. Kickoff held in Boaz, AL Oct 2007 K – 5 will not be “formal” cadet members of CAP this year. Their teachers will be CAP AE Members (teacher members). K – 5 will not progress in rank, nor will they be eligible for orientation flights or wear a uniform. K - 5 will wear a CAP t-shirt and will learn about character education, leadership development, aerospace education and physical fitness through 24 nationally standards-based lessons for each grade level.
