2. Cloud Computing
and the mobile workforce
The advent of cloud computing and mobile devices
allows us to move away from personal desktop
technology, paper and personal files that have
anchored the worker to his or her desk. The ability to
be mobile within the office allows us to work more
collaboratively and in less overall space than
previously.
4. … or your office
Today approximately 26 percent of the total global workforce of three
billion works away from their office at least two days a week. Studies
show that work away from the office will grow beyond 40 percent in the
next five years.
5. Face-to-Face is Still Important
The intimacy and trust that are developed through face-to-face meetings are especially critical
to the transfer of tacit knowledge, or knowledge that is difficult to articulate.
11. Focus on Collaboration
Activity Based Working: Activity-based workplaces revolve around creating a
workspace that is less hierarchical and fosters collaboration, personal
accountability and flexibility. The workplace is designed to accommodate the
various activities that office workers undertake rather than have a rigid
allocation of space based on a person's status in the hierarchy of the
enterprise.
12. Office Space Allocations
A recent study conducted by CoreNet
Global has predicted that office users
will reduce the amount of space they
allocate per person to an average of
151 square feet by 2017, compared
to 176 square feet today, and 225
square feet in 2010. Today, just 24
percent of the respondents to the
CoreNet Global study reported that
the average space per office worker
is 100 square feet or less;
however, 40 percent reported that
within five years, the average space
per office worker would be 100
square feet or less.
13. Open Plans and ABW
Are Not for Everyone
But increased efficiencies and cost reduction are
still feasible with a re-design

in the workplace with varied preferred styles of work
15. Here come the Millennials
As more and more millennial workers assume
management positions, you may notice changes in the
nature of the workplace as there are distinct
differences between the work styles, expectations, and
career perspectives of younger and older workers.
16. Real estate is not as valuable today as a cost-versus-market arbitrage for profit
as it is translating organizational strategies in to physical designs that support
higher productivity and lower costs.
