CrystalGuide flat fee surgical guide and triple scan - a new and effective protocol for 3D planning and guided surgery of partially edentulous cases CrystalGuide - complete service for advanced 3D planning and guided surgery of dental implants
2. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Three different possibilities regarding
indication:
1. Optical scan protocol
1. Patient is scanned using a CBCT without scan
appliance intraorally
2. Master cast is optically scanned in the laboratory and
delivered as stl-file, aligned to visible tooth structure
on patient scan
Indication: only partially edentulous cases with almost no
metal artefacts and at least 5 teeth remaining
Optional: second optical scan of same cast with wax-up to
visualize planned tooth positions 2
3. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Three different possibilities regarding
indication:
2. Dual scan protocol (classical for edentulous)
1. Patient is scanned with a CBCT with scan appliance
intraorally
2. Scan appliance is scanned alone on the CBCT
Indication: totally edentulous cases
3
4. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Three different possibilities regarding
indication:
3. Triple scan protocol (Dr. Gross)
1. Patient is scanned with CBCT with scan appliance
intraorally
2. Scan appliance is scanned on cast with 3 LEGO
bricks
3. Master cast with 3 LEGO bricks is optically scanned
as stl-file
4. Optional: second optical scan of same cast with
wax-up to visualize planned tooth positions
Indication: main protocol for partially edentulous case
(Lego bricks are available at children’s toy stores)

5. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Dual scan protocol
Step 1
CT or CBCT scan of patient wearing the scan
appliance with radiographic markers
5
7. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Dual scan protocol
Step 3
Alignment of these both datasets and planning in
relation to scan appliance
7
8. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Dual scan protocol
The current denture can be modified and utilized as the scan appliance or a
replica can be fabricated.
Round holes are created in specific points on the denture or replica using a #6
round bur then filled with gutta percha creating radiographic alignment markers.

9. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol (Dr. Gross)
Optical scan with 3 LEGO bricks
positioned on the cast
9
10. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol (Dr. Gross)
Optical scan of teeth wax-up on
master cast with 3 LEGO bricks
10
11. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol (Dr. Gross)
Easy scan appliance on cast with
radiographic markers in the scan
stent. Markers can be fabricated of
gutta percha or dental composite
filling material as both materials are
radiopaque. Acrylic used for denture
baseplates may be used for the bulk
of the stent as this material is
radiolucent.

12. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol (Dr. Gross)
Radiographic appearance of
markers out of composite material
12
13. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol
Step 1
CT or CBCT scan of patient wearing the scan
appliance with radiographic markers
13
14. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol
Step 2
CT or CBCT scan of scan appliance on cast with
LEGO bricks
14
15. CrystalGuide scan protocol
• Triple scan protocol
Step 3
Alignment of the two optical scans with and without
wax-up to these both datasets and planning in
relation to casts
