1. EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link
Week 4 Assignment: Due at the end of Week 4.
Overview
Last week, you engaged in an analysis and wrote a report describing the use of technology and
information systems to enrich campus curriculum, enhance teaching and learning, and generally
integrate technology into our campus improvement plans to effectively integrate technology and
instructional leadership. Your analysis and report should provide the necessary background for
the Week 4 major assignment – developing an action plan for gathering, analyzing, and using
data from a variety of sources for informed campus decision making focusing on integrating
technology, instructional leadership, professional development and organizational leadership.
As a result of this week’s assignments, you will be able to:
• Examine and assess procedures for gathering, analyzing, and using data from a variety
of sources for informed decision making regarding the integration of technology,
instructional and organizational leadership (SBEC Principal Competency 7 indicator);
• Design and apply skills for monitoring and evaluating change and making needed
adjustments to achieve the campus vision and goals, including the integration of
technology as described above (SBEC Principal Competency 7 indicator).
Both of these outcomes are elements of Domain II, Instructional Leadership.
In writing your Week 4 action plan, use your interviews, your readings, including campus and
district improvement plans as well as any technology plans, and your Week 3 report to make
sure the action plan:
• Identifies data gathering sources;
• Provides a description of an organizational chart describing decision making
responsibilities regarding the integration of technology from central office personnel to
campus leadership and staff;
• Describes comprehensive professional development activities to achieve your action
plan (this may utilize information from the previous three weeks of readings and
activities);
• Includes an evaluation plan to assess the progress and success of the action plan.
Students will be asked to post their action plan on the Discussion Board and each student must
review and comment on at least one other action plan focusing on organizational leadership
designed to maximize the use of technology in data gathering and decision making.
Submit your assignment by 11:59 PM on the seventh day of Week 4.

The principal’s responsibility is to make sure that technology is being integrated across the
curriculum. The principal must be in constant communication with all stakeholders to ensure
that the Campus Technology Plan and District Technology Plan are put into action. Principals
must also support teacher’s needs in every aspect of technology. They need to support
teachers in professional development opportunities and seeking outside sources for funding for
teachers in regards to technology in the classroom. The principal’s role is to use technology as
a tool for communication, data monitoring and identifying data trends at the campus and district

levels. All learners, whether it is teachers or students, learn by example. If principals want
technology used in the classroom, then they must also use it in daily activities.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 2: Professional Development Planning
Using the campus and district improvement plans, and any suggested technology
improvements, develop professional development activities that include the following:
• Reference analysis and lessons learned about the technology needs from the Week 3
report.
• Addresses professional development designed to improve the gathering, analysis and use
of data from a variety of sources.
• Includes professional development to improve decision making in the integration of
technology with instructional and organizational leadership.
When deciding on appropriate topics for staff development, I reviewed the last three years of
Garland High School’s STaR Chart results and information from the interviews that I conducted.
Although our school has been doing an overall good job in regards to technology improvement,
there were some areas that needed to still get better. One of these areas included giving
teachers time to use the technology that was being introduced. I think that teachers need to be
given time after staff development training so that they can create lessons that are both creative
and innovative for our 21st century learners. Teachers also noted that it must be relevant and
engaging so that more teachers are on board with using technology in the classroom.
Professional Development activities would include the following:
• Review the STaR Chart, AEIS and AYP data- Teachers need to be aware how our
campus scored on the STaR Chart because they are the ones that score it that way. In
order to advance to a high level, the district has to be aware of what each campus needs
so that achievement is impacted positively.

• Staff development will be provided to all staff to further the effective use of technology in
the classroom. Providers of staff development include in-house staff, Regional Service
Centers, local colleges and universities, and professional organizations.
• Instructional Technologist will provide training using classroom technology (SMART
Board, document cameras, etc.) and time will be built in for teachers to use it
themselves.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 3: Evaluation Planning for Action Plan
The technology action plan integrating instructional an organizational leadership must include
evaluation components that provide measurable outcomes designed to address the following:
• Uses data and other analysis from the Week 3 report, including using the campus and
district improvement plans, and local or state technology plans;
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring reports measuring professional development
designed to use technology to improve the gathering, analysis and use of data from a
variety of sources.
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring evaluating professional development to improve
decision making in the integration of technology with instructional and organizational
leadership.
• Uses data and other analysis from the Week 3 report, including using the campus and
district improvement plans, and local or state technology plans.
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring reports measuring professional development
designed to use technology to improve the gathering, analysis and use of data from a
variety of sources.
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring evaluating professional development to improve
decision making in the integration of technology with instructional and organizational
leadership.
The technology committee, which consists of the superintendent, director of technology, director
of curriculum, instructional technologist, administrators from each campus and campus
technologists from each campus, will meet at least twice during the school year to evaluate and
make determination on the progress of technology integration. This evaluation will also look at
Page 12 – Revised October 2009
13. EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link
how well and how often technology is being used at the campus levels. The committee will
make recommendations of updates needed to the Technology Plan.
The evaluation process will include the following assessments:
Informal interviews of staff from each of the campuses. These will be used by the SBDM
committee in order to make plans for the future. These plans would include suggestions and/or
concerns by the staff.
Campus Technologists will monitor and report on progress and needs of each campus.
They will also report on the ability of teachers to use technology in classrooms.
Campus administrators will provide lesson plans, student projects, teacher interviews, and
parental report that show that the classroom teacher is using technology in the classroom.
All staff will be monitored through PDAS walk-throughs and evaluations by administrators to
determine technology and professional development training is being implemented into the daily
curriculum of all subject areas. According to the Week 3 Interview, Dr. Abernathy states that we
need to push our teachers to be creative and innovative in creating lessons using technology.
When observing teachers and using the PDAS system, this can be assessed and noted.
The STaR Chart will be completed by all staff to assist administrators in determining the
professional development needs of each campus so that achievement will be positively
impacted.
Campus Technologist will also conduct informal assessment, which may include walk- throughs,
written surveys, etc.
Student performance on assessments that measure proficiency in grade-appropriate

It is important to survey the students to see how they use technology at home. I think that a
survey each semester would help teachers create lessons that are appropriate to their student’s
technology levels.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 4: Posting your Action Report and Responding to Other
Students’ action plans
Using the discussion board and the blog that you have developed, please write and post
your action plan, and be sure to:
• Read and review at least two other action plans
• Respond to other action plans by posting your comments and reflections
The purpose of the action report is to provide you with recommended procedures for
gathering, analyzing, and using data from a variety of sources for informed campus decision
making focusing on the effective integration of technology in curriculum, instruction,
assessment and professional development. Students may wish to use this action plan as
one of your school improvement projects for your Electronic Portfolio. You may also use the
Week 3 and Week 4 assignments as campus supervised hours for your internship logs. As
indicated these two weeks fall under Domain II, Instructional Leadership, and address
elements of Competencies 4, 5 and 7.
